Ugh. I messed up guys. Decided to try to get the Bruce Lee box set this morning as Barnes & noble opened. There’s only one B&N in my area that has a movie section. I woke up this morning and saw it was in stock at my store, should’ve ordered it for pickup but I didn’t. Got there, first one in the store, someone had ordered both copies they got in. Hopefully there’s a restock soon.

Spent my lunch hour making my first dive into the sale:

Hopefully I can find The Great Escape and War of the Worlds before it ends. But today I'm just happy to have the Lee box - without spider wrap dents!

i've been to 4 different stores near me since the sale started, and all of them seem depleted. Are more people buying than usually, or is it just manufacturers are behind because of one thing and another?

I got Lady Eve today (and I saw Bruce Lee sets I wouldn't buy because they were damaged with spider wraps) since they were released today, but seems like no new releases (Portrait of a Lady, Come and See, etc.) are available anywhere near me in store. Not just new releases. Some stores had mostly DVDs left.

Both seem to be true.

I'm in the Barnes & Noble employees Facebook group and some of you all have been absolute monsters.

After WAC announced its 4/$44 sale the same day as the Criterion started, I decided to sit this B&N event out (for the first time ever), and wait for the Flash Sale in October. Today was the first day I was able to get to one of the local stores since the sale started, so I thought I'd browse anyway.

Amazed to find one copy of the Bruce Lee set (without spider wrap) just sitting there, so naturally, I did the decent thing...

My main store in NYC, in Union Square, didn't seem like it had received any updated stock since they had reopened a few weeks earlier. They didn't even have a sign up stating the Criterions were on sale. I picked up Fail Safe and All About Eve. Hopefully I can get to the Fifth Avenue location this weekend. They closed their biggest and best store in NY, on 86th Street and Lexington...never came back from the pandemic for reopening

Received my copy of Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits in the mail today and am pleasantly surprised to see the criminally underrated, Game of Death 2 a.k.a Tower of Death included on the disc! It's a super fun and silly film with a great last 30 minutes. In my opinion, blows Game of Death out of the water.

To anyone picking up the set who hasn't seen it, give it a watch for sure!

My store had 4 copies. All in spider wraps... I wept.

The guy behind me bought it and I envied his low standards

There were a couple of different sets in spider wrap in my store today, and the "bite" into the boxes was so deep I'd find it hard to believe anyone would buy them...however low their standards.

Hope you find a good one soon.

Speaking of "spider wrap" I find it amusing that copies of the DVD version of The Koker Trilogy at my local B&N are protected this way. Unlike the blu-ray the DVD is packaged in a standard Criterion plastic case, and the wrap does not appear to leave any damage. I guess anything over two discs is considered a "box set" and is treated as such.

Irishman would be fantastic. I just hope we get it this year.

The last few boxsets were announced a few days before the 15th, so based on that I'm not expecting a boxset tomorrow. Still, you never know.

Yeah I’ve been wondering if the Fellini and WKW boxes may be delayed to 2021 since they were the 2 boxes of the 4 from the NY’s Clue that had planned touring of the films this summer that haven’t been able to happen. And if they had planned all along to release them at the the end of the year, it may have been hard to produce supplements. I hope not, but it wouldn’t be completely surprising

I was at the sale the first day early and my local store was stocked well. They had all the new releases, but things went really fast. Faster than in the past. I went today to get The Lady Eve and the Criterion shelves were pretty well wiped out. Reading the posts here I feel lucky to have a few Barnes and Noble's near me and all have a large section of blurays. They also never use spider wraps on the box sets. So awful to ruin a new boxset with those.

At the Northgate Seattle location, the clerk was talking to me about how shocked she was at how quickly the shelves were cleaned. The downtown Seattle location closed last year, causing a sudden influx of people. She said a lot of people asked about Godzilla but she kept telling them that the set was on backorder. I told her about the Bruce Lee set and she was pleased that I told her because Enter the Dragon was her little brother's favorite movie. I felt like I made her day.
Anyway, I got King of Jazz, Medium Cool, A Face in the Crowd, Scorsese Shorts, David Lynch: The Art Life and Safety Last! Medium Cool and Scorsese Shorts are the only blind buys.
