Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if the new disc used either the old Criterion or Optimum master.

StudioCanal have been on a roll with doing more 4K-workflow restorations and I find it odd how two of Goddard's biggest/most well-known films ("Breathless" and "Pierrot le Fou") that only one of them is getting a 4K remaster ("Breathless") and the other isn't ("Pierrot le Fou").

While I do wish that October had a horror title like Cure or Onibaba (or a Japanese film period), I'm pretty happy about the Hit. If you enjoy gangster films, this is one of the better ones made outside of the US.

Yes. It tends to vary on a case-by-case basis. I guess we will have to see about this one.

I use the same credit or debit cards I always use and I regularly buy from online stores around the world without issue EXCEPT for B&N.
They happily take my order (which I gather is automatic), and then a couple of minutes later it is cancelled. This is beyond frustrating! Anyway, I thought I would come on here and see if anyone had any ideas as to why this may be happening. Thanks in advance.
I see you've already had some responses, but I'd add that if you are using an "old" B&N login (i.e., credentials set up some time ago), you may want to start from scratch and set up a brand new B&N account (assuming the site allows you to). There was a period of time when B&N suspended sales/shipping to Australia and - total guesswork on my part - if you have an account from before that time, it may be recognized as such and this may be impacting your experience.

Basically, the B&N site is terrible, and requires considerable patience and determination. Unfortunately, B&N phone reps are completely powerless to make any decisions that actually improve the customer experience - so it may take a more targeted inquiry to resolve. Good luck.

The Gunfighter will be mine.

It's about time that The Hit was released on Blu-ray. It will be mine as well.

I already have a 4K UHD Blu-ray of Parasite.

Pierrot le fou would have been a perfect first 4K UHD Blu-ray choice from Criterion, but that's not happening. I've got the old edition.

Claudine is new to me, but it looks great.

I agree that the B&W version could be a fun experience!! I'm personally going to skip this one though. I think for the most part when it comes to rewatches, I'd prefer the native 4K, beautifully colored HDR/DV release that we have. Hopefully the B&W version becomes rent-able digitally though because I would check that out, just not for $20.

That's not to say this release is pointless though. We did get a pretty barebones set in terms of extras on the other Blu-ray/4K releases, and no B&W version of course. I think this release could still hold value for people who want to check those out (the commentary could be great), and of course not everyone has moved to 4K yet. It is always a bit jarring to me though to see Criterion releasing Blu-rays of films that have been out in 4K for a little while.

Sorry to rant, I'm only whining because I'd love to support Criterion even more. It's just releases like this that I can't pull the trigger on, because A/V quality of the feature film is what's most important to me in a release, and in terms of that, they're releasing a subpar version to what's already out there.

"New 4K digital master" for Parasite? But we already have a UHD release. Why release something less-than?

There have been some great titles so far this year, but this one may be my favourite announcement yet.

I guess for the special features — and for many, the C in the corner of the packaging

While I liked the film, I'm not interested in owning it. However, it would be a tough call for me. The UHD disc or the disc with the commentary?

I really like the Pierrot cover. At least it's not another cartoon. I prefer simple and using images from the film.

Glad The Hit is finally getting an upgrade, and that I'll be able to buy Pierrot Le Fou at a normal price, but this month seems very small compared to previous Octobers...

I guess Parasite is supposed to be the horror film? Its amazing but I've seen it like 5 times (3 in cinemas), so I was kind of hoping for something else. I'm guessing that's morse code on the cover?

Agreed, the DVD has one of my favorite Criterion covers. I'm rather shocked they've changed it for the worse.

But there was absolutely nothing wrong with the original.

I'm waiting for the announcement on the News page here, to see how many people say, "Haven't heard of any of these except Parasite" and "Why isn't Parasite on 4K?"

With the recent 4K release of Parasite from Universal, this would have been the perfect time for Criterion to get into the 4K market and make this the ultimate home video release of the film.
