I can see the WKW set being released in December in time for Christmas, especially with a lower price point that would not be as effective as the Fellini set does overlapping with a (supposed) BN sale. Regardless, looking good (in my eyes) for the 4 sets to get in during the year.

Regarding the box set chat, I would LOVE a full Kurosawa upgrade. I've been wanting to go through his films in sequence, but have been kind of stalling the project because the AK set keeps feeling like a natural upgrade.

And in smaller hopes, I'd love (as my sig says) them to upgrade their Dreyer trilogy.

Yesterday I ordered Dance, Girl, Dance. I cannot wait for that one, Lucille Ball is fantastic in everything.

It seems I've added more Criterion releases to my blu-ray collection since quarantine began than at any other time in my disc purchasing history. Anyone else seeing their disc purchasing levels kinda skyrocket lately?

IL CINEMA RITROVATO is going online this year.

Worth digging into as a lot of films that premiere there eventually get a Criterion release.

That would be glorious! Also 8 movies, so not that big of a set!

Can you preorder during the flash sales to get 50% off? I’ve ordered flash sale but never tried pre-order items, so I was wondering bc I’d rather buy the Fellini set from Criterion for points

I do believe the flash sales are only for in stock titles.

Since so many of these auteurs have so little of their overall work available on blu-ray, for a director's set, I suggest the following directors:

Luis Buñuel
Hou Hsiao-hsien
Glauber Rocha
Theodoros Angelopoulos
Tsai Ming-liang
Andy Warhol
Yimou Zhang

and
Jerry Lewis

I have been in the same boat with AK. I wanted to grab Rashomon which is one of my personal favorites. I decided to hold off in hopes that we get a large box set. Can you imagine? Criterion would go through a first pressing in an instant with a Kurosawa box set.

I am seriously starting to feel as if Criterion, Warner Archive, Kino, Eureka, Powerhouse Films and Arrow have secretly gotten together, and conspired to bankrupt me. But if one has to go broke, what a happy way to do so.

Dropping this in the mail tomorrow to Jon Mulvaney for replacement.

Curious - anyone else out there that sent for replacement disc in this situation remember how long it took to get the new one back in the mail?
FWIW, I emailed Mulvaney about a bronzed disc in early July. He replied with all of the pertinent information but warned that because of the current situation that it might not be for 1 month or longer before it is processed. I finally mailed it (and 8 other "potentials) in on July 20th and haven't received anything back yet. Obviously, my expectations have been properly set, so I'm not worried at this point in time.

Seriously---I have all the current discs (minus IKIRU), but the upgrades alone would make the set worth it (plus, at the rate the sets have been going, a half off AK set would probably be between 125-150 bucks, which is the same amount (if not a little less) than would be if Criterion upgraded old Kurosawa DVDs one by one (and the Eclipse sets alone getting the boost would be enough).

Plus I'd def be able to sell off the discs I have to pay for the set. But that's not an incentive, its just a perk.

Yeah, in movie world this year has been WILD with the boxsets.

I've picked up Bruce Lee, Varda, Fellini, Gamera, Ford at Columbia, Fu Manchu Cycle, Friday the 13th, Lenzi/Baker, a handful of those Kino sets, Solid Metal Nightmares, Jodorowsky, more Universal horror sets from Scream, and I think one or two more.

Picked up a pass---the streaming selection hasn't been announced yet, but if its even a fraction of what is in their program its worth the 60 bucks it cost.

But why release Andys films when you can stare at your own wall for 6 hours?

Seems like they announced Breathless (1960) with a new 4K HDR restoration. I don't think it'll be coming to America though since Criterion's Blu-ray exists and they have never re-released a movie with a newer restoration unless if it's part of a boxset like Seventh Seal on Bergman's Cinema and 8 1/2 on Fellini's Boxset.

Unless if there's a Godard boxset, Breathless is probably going to stay as the 2010 restoration Criterion used which I think it fine since the restoration itself is still beautiful.

Also, I don't know if I misread the magazine but it seems like Le Cercle Rouge doesn't have any mentions of a new restoration or master. I can't read Italian and I may have read too fast but this excites me since Criterion most likely earned their rights back with this one.

Yes!
It kills me that Taipei Story didn't get a separate release. But a box set of his entire work would be splendid.
