I figured City of Women would be included as they worked with Cohen to include Faces Places in their Varda set. Just as I thought that Ginger and Fred would be included because of their relationship with Warner Brothers.

I think I am in for the Varda set and now this Fellini set. My poor poor wallet. A moment of silence, if you please:

As far as I know nothing confirmed. Just the DVD set and lots of wishful thinking! I think that they also haven’t released a Kurosawa in awhile as a hint of them waiting to package them together, but that could be nonsense.

The two Criterion directors I want boxsets for the most are Kurosawa and Ozu.

It's a cool set, but it just doesn't sit well with me the way they release new restorations in boxsets, obsoleting in the process still readily available standalone releases without any intention of upgrading them as well (i.e. 8 1/2, Amarcord, The Seventh Seal, Cries and Whispers, and so on). The selling point of those standalone blu-rays rests on the notion their definitive 1080p editions of said films.

Welp I picked up a brand new copy of Walkabout on EBay and turns out it’s bronzed/won’t play after chapter 8-9. Researched and found out about disc replacement program for Walkabout and other Criterion discs from 2009/2010 affected by same issue. Dropping this in the mail tomorrow to Jon Mulvaney for replacement.
Curious - anyone else out there that sent for replacement disc in this situation remember how long it took to get the new one back in the mail? |

Also, if it's brand new sealed, then the description is accurate. Not all the originals bronzed or became unplayable and many people wouldn't have an idea that those had issues anyway. Even most people who buy Criterions have no idea of the issue. Last edited by hariseldon; 08-12-2020 at 03:59 AM. |

Here's a random thought that kinda popped up in my mind, Ozu could've done a four seasons collection of films maybe if he lived longer.
He has Early Spring, Late Spring, Early Summer, The End of Summer, and An Autumn Afternoon that are all related to the seasons but he died before he could make more of those. Maybe if he lived longer, he could've made a Winter one. If all of Ozu's films get new 4K restorations (Most of them do now but there are a few that still haven't I'm sure), maybe there could be a cool boxset idea where instead of Varda's Program and Bergman's Film Festival, we could have Ozu's 4 Seasons with Good Morning, Tokyo Story, Floating Weeds, and maybe The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice as the transition films from Spring to Summer, Summer to Fall, Fall to Winter. This is such a bizarre and unimportant thought but I keep thinking about this for some reason lol. |

I sent mine in just before the lockdown and by the time it arrived there, their offices had shut down and the disc is lost somewhere in the ether because there was no one to receive it. I think the tracking, months later, still shows as "out for delivery". I was able to correspond with them after the fact and eventually got my replacement (which was an entire brand new sealed copy), which arrived via courier from Kentucky to Canada extremely quickly once it actually shipped. |
