My ultimate dream is a Fassbinder box. Which seems like something that could reasonably happen rights-wise.

Would definitely pick this up. The compilation currently available on the Criterion Channel would make a fabulous set.

So were some of the Vardas and Bergmans. That's the point of doing a boxset, it getting them all on blu-ray.

Agreed, but you can already get Blonde, Trains, Ball, and Daises all region free (I believe) in very nice transfers from the UK.

Wondering if maybe the set is OOP cause of the documentary.
Over the last couple of years they have decided to not repress DVD boxsets, even if they retain the rights. I assume sales just do not justify keeping the DVD sets in-print.

Semi-related, I was just wishing recently that I could get the slip for that Samurai set I bought everything individually.

I hope we see some more Scorsese films in the November announcements! It's always a HUGE month every year. I'll be crossing my fingers.

Sorry if my response came off the wrong way, I was just making sure you werent not buying the individual release of Persona thinking the boxset had a better version.

Ah no worries , i didn't take it the wrong way. Sometimes I don't realize in my effort to be short and sweet that online my tone might be interpereted as hostile, which wasn't my intention. I didn't actually own any Bergman before buying that set

But the fellini I do and I'm kind of dissapointed that 3 of the discs will be identical in the set. I think if it was an option, I would kind of prefer to buy the individual releases. Fancy packaging/showing off sets and such isn't really my thing

We already know for certain about the Fellini set for November, and I'm almost betting that they announce "The Irishman" for November, as well.

Otherwise, I kinda feel a sorta suspicion that they might announce a stand alone "Spirits of the Dead", to coincide with the Fellini box. Both, "Spirits of the Dead" and the stand-alone "Toby Dammit" segment, have been on their channel online for a while. And I didn't expect them to include the full, "Spirits of the Dead" in the Fellini box, since it includes Roger Vadim and Louis Malle segments, as well (which they didn't). Since "Toby Dammit" is in the Fellini box, I feel like it would be nice to release the full "Spirits" at the same time, separately.

Then, there may be one other November title, and I have no clue what it would be.

I have a long wishlist, but that's not the same thing, LOL.

Here’s my guesses/hopes:

The Irishman
Ballad of a Soldier upgrade
Bringing Up Baby
Homicide upgrade
Winchester 73

No Kurosawas so that we get that boxset in 2021.

No need for it, they have already released virtually everything that matters independently. Anyone that doesn't have them already is an amateur.

I was thinking BRINGING UP and ARSENIC AND OLD LACE as a Grant two-fer month. IRISHMAN feels like a definite. That’s a lot of American, though.

Not sure if you don't know much about Kurosawa, but Stray Dog, Drunken Angel, Dersu Uzala, The Bad Sleep Well, and others say hello.

Yes, we still don't have HD versions of Stray Dog, Dersu Uzala, The Bad Sleep Well, Drunken Angel, Red Beard, among others.

I've been eagerly waiting for Bringing Up Baby, but since Sony seems to be planing to release more and more classic Hollywood films in UHD, I'll probably wait before getting the Criterion. Actually, I think Bringing Up Baby was among the titles included in the second Sony poll.

There are a lot of other Kurosawa films that could be released as part of a set. But for many of us, we already own all the Kurosawa films we want.

With that said, I see no reason not to release a set if they can.
