With all of these Criterion boxsets, I truly hope 2021 is the year we finally get a Kurosawa boxset. I think it's long overdue at this point.

Seconded. Even though I already a bunch of them already I would happily double dip for a Kurosawa release, day 1. This has been the one set I really want.

I’ve been hearing a lot of people talk about this possible Kurosawa boxset, is there any indication of it actually happening?

No, its more hoping than any real indication its coming since there are a bunch of films that are only on DVD.

After this year, Criterion might try to overshadow 2020 by releasing more box sets in 2021.

More obtuse, but you could also have a Jupiter cocktail to celebrate how close (and visible) Saturn and Jupiter are in the sky this summer (depending on where you live). I've spent many hours the past few months sitting on the patio and gazing at this wonder...it's brought me a lot of imagination and solace.

Part of me loves that they’ve been going so hard on box sets, but also having exclusive transfers and films not available individually is going to become more and more annoying

I’m not sure why they can’t just make second printings with the new restorations for films they previously released on Blu-ray e.g. Persona or Amarcord, etc

I'm thinking Monday as well, but it'd be a nice surprise if the announcement did come tomorrow.

* and also if Criterion FINALLY announced "The Irishman" as I've been on my toes post "Marriage Story" announcement for them to finally get to it.

Persona's boxset version is identical to the originally released blu. Summer With Interlude, Autumn Sonata and The Seventh Seal are the new resotrations in the boxset. And I think Fanny and Alexander had a bit of a colour grading touchup.

I thought announcements were always on the 15th?

They never announce on a weekend, usually the following Monday. There have been a few Friday surprises, though.

I think the "rule" is typically that the announcements will come on Friday if the 15th is a Saturday, and on Monday if the 15th is a Sunday. In other words, it's always the day on either side of the weekend closest to the 15th. As such, I'm expecting them today.

Anyone have predictions when the next Criterion flash sale might happen?

In October, and almost certainly not before then.

Not when it falls on a holiday or the weekend, and sometimes they just plain do it on the 16th for no apparent reason.

Does anyone know how long the Dreyer trilogy DVD has been OOP? The three films are still on the Janus website, but the set is listed as "Out of Print". Perhaps my sig dreams can come true and these are finally getting the bump soon? Or has it been listed as Out of Print for a while?

Wondering if maybe the set is OOP cause of the documentary.

As many have stated, a Kurosawa box would be great. I would also love a giant set of Czech New Wave, which would be a cool chance to upgrade some of the older releases (LOVES OF A BLONDE, FIREMAN'S BALL, CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS, and the Eclipse set), and give releases to the many Czech films they have in their library.

Ozu would be great too, another film maker with so many scattered releases that putting them all in one place would be lovely.

A Godzilla-contemporaries set would be great fun!

A Kurosawa box would be a natural, as would an Ozu.

The latter could be a bit more problematic in terms of color grading; that tug-of-war has been going for a bit since the BFI tried to do their complete series of his films (the project petered out, but I got all the releases they managed.)

But...a massive black box with just Ozu's name on it...hell yes.

I know we have a million copies of "The Godfather" already, but shouldn't Coppola have a box at some point? He's truly an American Auteur.

C.
