I agree that if you want reliability, wired all the way.

However it does add about $15 at manufacture to the cost of a unit build

Frankly I see this as bringing in a big market for a wireless transmitter hub that's actually competetively priced with routers. You can (legally) change the firmware on a router to do this for about $40, but it takes some tech knowhow

Default Panasonic DMP-BD30K and 7669 easter egg

If anyone has any contacts at Panasonic, I'm having an issue where it only allows 3 digits to be entered at the menu screen. Tried calling into support, but they really had no idea what I was talking about.

He'll be back.

I just lost my mind temporarily and made a trek over to AVM$ and was reading through their insider's thread. I remember when PaidGeek left (and many of us Blu-ray fans left with him), and how it was unfortunate, but completely understandable given the circumstances.

So, my question, then, is what did TalkStr8t do to get stuck responding to a never ending stream of FUD over there? Is he contractually obligated to post on that board, or is he just that masochistic? In any event, has anyone offered him an olive branch to come back to the realm of sanity over here. Many people here have real questions... and his input is always valuable.
Well, we do like to get the Blu word out to other online sites for diversification. This is something that the MS machine and its minions have been doing very effectively for months, if not years now with their HD DVD internet indoctrination on just about every forum or blog there is. Hence, you are now seeing things like the Blu-ray YouTube videos, etc. There’s alot of catch-up to do in the blogosphere thanks to the antics of the A-man.

So tell me, in regards to talkstr8t’s presence on AVS, is it as bad as this?............

Penton-Man,

The High Def 2.0 Conference is being held in LA on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

http://highdef.homemediaconferences....x.cvn?id=10006

Among the scheduled panelists are guys from BDA companies like Sony, Panasonic, & Pioneer.

Top names include:
Andy Parsons - Pioneer Electronics
Eisuke Tsuyuzaki - Panasonic Hollywood Labs

It's great to see so many Blu-ray guys attending this event - even Bill Hunt of The Digital Bits will be there.

Are you planning to attend? How about Paid?

What I find most interesting is the lack of any panelists from Toshiba or Microsoft - no A-man or even Kevin Collins.

Maybe they didn't want to fit in a session titled, "Convincing Enthusiasts And Retailers That They Should Be Happy If Neither Side Wins (unlike with DVD) - Videogames have multiple incompatible platforms, so why shouldn't video?"

Seriously, does anybody know if any representative from Universal will be there?

The problem is one of fatigue though, not just being able to adjust. With longer flip intervals you have more issues with ghosting as the LCD crystals in shutter glasses aren't completely opaque when on. In addition to that you still have the synchronization issues to deal with as well. This can easily be solved by using a higher refresh rate in the display and having the glasses slaved to the display refresh rather than the player. That is, if it's shutter glasses that ends up being used. There are other technologies that look very promising and might just produce better results, but again with the same caveat that you'd need a new display.

It is good to know that the BDA is aware of those "tactics".

And for the record, they didn't even crack it. They figured out how to copy that one disc(yay, 50GB of download or a blank that costs more than the legit version), but not how to actually decrypt it and remove BD+

I'm trying to do my part in the blogosphere (see sig), for whatever that's worth. And I still haven't gotten any of that infamous Project Hydra money for it, either. I'm thinking I should have gone HD DVD... $150 million in "promotional considerations" would come in really handy.

Talkstr8t should be so lucky as to only have to go through that. The reality is far FAR worse for the poor guy. Imagine a senate impeachment hearing... combined with a good old fashioned stoning...

I guess those who live in glass houses all have HD DVD players -- which makes sense. It takes a special kind of dumb to buy an all-glass house.

You should read a recent interview with Sir Howard Stringer. He touched on the issue of 3D briefly.
Maxpower1987: I did, But I think what David and I want is a simple solution where players use the secondary decoder to decode the second eye, then the player (depending on the one you buy) can either send out both separately (to two projectors that use different polarization) or combine them to 120i like the Samsung DLPs.

With one 3D stream on disk (meant to work with the DLP) I can't get what I want (dual projector system)

The added benefit of a dual projector system is that you have 2x brightness when not doing 3D

David - you do need a new display unfortunately. The problem is that with LCD shutter glasses at those frequencies you get flicker. Synching the glasses with the display is also a problem, especially with ones that have delays due to the processing chain, and with things like dynamic contrast and the like you may even have a variable delay. Even if you do use a higher refresh rate, most fixed pixel displays can't actually update the image displayed as fast as needed. DLPs and CRTs can, LCD/SXRD and plasma can't.
Frode: we don't want shutter glasses. The idea is that you feed the left image to one projector, the right one to a second projector and each projector is polarized (perpendicularly). Both images are superimposed on the screen. The left projector has a polarized image one way and the right one perpendicularly to it and the same for the glasses. So now even though the images hit the same area your left eye only sees the left image and the right one the right one.

This can easily work with any FP (with any two projectors today or a new dual image processing) and RP (will need a new set with dual image processing)

Just as i created my own blog a few hours ago http://happysounds.blogspot.com/ It is not as visual as yours, and will be more PS3 focused. The more the merrier, I suppose. Anyways...

I don't think i'm the only one who finds it difficult to be a blu-ray supporter. I've seen frustrations from people here, wanting the BDA to do more, or just say more. It is understandable, seeing that Microsoft constantly provides the "ammunition" for use against us, the supporters. It is almost effortless to be a HD DVD supporter. Help us out there, please. Do you need more ideas?

since there is more discussion about 3D and there does seem to be some confusion, I will go into a bit more detail of what I want (and from past discussions I am guessing David as well)

BD movies are 1080p24 on the disks right now, right?
BD specs (1.1) mandate two decoders, right?
BD videoBR can be up to 40mbps, right?

this is BD-3D as I (and some others) see (want) it

let's say the studio puts video-R with AVC 20mbps and video-L with AVC 20mbps on the disk
total video is 40mbps (so conforms to BD specs), video-R gets decoded by the primary decoder while video-L by the secondary decoder. In the player I want video-R is sent to the HDMI-R and video-L to HDMI-L. HDMI-R is connected to projector-R and HDMI-L to projector-L, both image-R and image-L are on the same screen but because my glasses polarized and the projectors are polarized my right eye sees image-R and my left one image-L.

Projector-R and L work like any normal Projector, having both images does not affect anything.

Now if watching a none 3D image with PiP then it all works as a normal BD player (video-1 decoded by primary decoder, PiP by secondary decoder, both combined) except that it works as a splitter and sends the same image through both projectors (and obviously I don't ware the polarized glasses)

The nice thing of such a BD-3D scheme would be that an other manufacturer (like Mitsubishi) could slightly modify it for 120hz DLPs (or what ever they are)

i.e.
total video is 40mbps (so conforms to BD specs), video-R gets decoded by the primary decoder while video-L by the secondary decoder. Then both 60 get sent from the same HDMI but are combined as 120

The question becomes do you insiders think that such a “new 3D profile” could be possible?

PS 2 notes

Note 1: With such a profile existing (none 3D) players could just play Video-R (or video-L) so it would be backwards compatible

Note 2: Even though 20mbps for max video is a bit low, I am sure that because of the 3D effect the same detail could be passed (i.e. one eye has a bit less detail and the other a bit more so that maybe instead of 20-20 25-15 might give better results, but I leave that up to studios and others to find the happy medium

Insiders,

Is there any truth to this:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=20255

Personally, Dec. 11th seems too soon to adequately market the movie.
Anyway, I hope its true.
