That game was lost when they let Avilan give up all those runs. He never had control tonight. The scouting book on Uggla is that he can't handle high heat. I think Grilli was attempting that and let it get a little too low.

MLB has cleared the Cubs of tampering with Joe Maddon while he was still under contract with the Rays. The Rays never had any basis for the tampering allegations but MLB did an extensive forensic investigation of all the phones and computers connected to the Cubs front office, Maddon, and Maddon's agent and found no evidence of communication between the parties before Maddon opted-out of his contract.

Why wouldn't he? He was standing on the field after the game in tears. Something tells me he'd want the ball. Most players save the ball from their first hit's , HR's, milestones, etc. So yes, i think he cares about the ball to one degree or another, as most players seem to do. You routinely hear about players giving fans memorabilia etc. for baseballs.

I dislike what A-rod did, but he was a hall of fame player before PED's. Same with Bonds.

Bonds pre-steroids numbers (I'm saying he started in 99 after McGwire/Sosa season): .290, 1917 H, 411 HR, 1216 RBI, 445 SB
ARod's pre-steroids numbers (he stated he did them in 2001-03): .309, 966 H, 189 HR, 595 RBI, 133 SB

189 HR and 595 RBI in seven years is pretty good. He was hitting over 40 HR and over 100 RBI pre-2001, so it stands to reason he would have potentially continued that production for many more years, which would give him those Bond's like #s after 13 or 14 seasons. (When BB might have started) And really , those #s are for five years since he didn't do much in his first two.

Not sure how PED's work, so i don't know how much his production really benefited after he said he stopped taking them.

My opinion anyway.

Hall of fame caliber or not, the guy was a great hitter, regardless.

I was more happy that his HR gave us the lead (and win) than it tying Mays. All his achievements are meaningless now (really have been since he originally came clean in 09. Sure MLB says they count, but I'm more concerned him helping us win games (which so far he has).

I think the players union will have something to say about that. Not that I care about A-rod in the slightest. However, the Yankees don't have the opportunity to market these milestones anymore so I certainly understand their position.
