Shame on Mattingly for challenging play....of course Tejada was off the base..he got barreled into and knocked off the bag by a dirty late slide and illegal by the rules at that..what's next for baseball..running down a first baseman b4 he catches the ball and then challenging he was off the bag because he got crashed into?

Utley knew he was out and not because the Ump called him out, he just ran right to the dugout. Terrible play, terrible use of review, terrible baseball reversed call, just f@#$%$''n terrible for the game.

Ok Utley, let's see how fast you can duck next AB and every AB after that.

As most experts have pointed out, he's been doing it for years and nothing has been done about it. Maybe the severity of this injury will finally wake up them up.

Justin Upton tweeted, if that was a superstar such as Tulo, there would be a rule in place today.

I can't really fault Mattingly for challenging the play, you can tell at the press conference that he was effected by what happened. He had to do something to get his team going, they up until that point did virtually nothing against the Mets starting pitching.

22 k's in 13.1 innings by the starters, most batters especially Seager and a good hitter in Gonzalez, looked overmatched at times.

That being said, I hope the Mets can channel this anger and take care of business at home. You can best believe if the Mets are up or down big, somebody is getting drilled in one of the next couple of games.

What's sad for the Mets (beyond the injury) is if Tejada throws the ball to first, it couldn't have been challenged.

Too little too late. I noticed in Torre's statement, that it was still up to the field crew to determine if the slide was illegal. But the very next day it's determined it's an illegal slide? The umps have called interference for much less, how could that crew not see how Utley never attempted to even touch the bag, and went directly to take Tejada out?

So happy Utley got suspended. I didn't agree with that slide at all...or most of Utley's demeanor. I've never been a big fan of him but after last night I just think he's playing the game wrong.

They always appeal. Especially in the playoffs. The worst part is that he or anyone else in the league won't learn until there's a rule in place.

the clips he is using shows the same slide..but the SS is facing him and sees him coming. In this case Tejada was blind sided and defenseless. As a player you know that there is a high risk of injury to the opposition who doesn't see you coming. And remember the call..not a double play situation which means he literally ran down and infielder for no good reason and should be out for leaving the base path to interfere with a player on the field. Any way you cut it the player should be out and the challenge rule which takes the Umpires call and the human element out of the game is getting to be absurd.
