That’s definitely the discussion, it’s clearly been shown that there will be major disruptions like this, and the question is if the desire to play (which is and should be strong) outweighs the likelihood that there may be multiple incidents such as this. At the very least this hopefully is a signal not to try and do college sports this fall (they are students, not professional athletes, and with the number of players/teams and just them being college kids, no way there won’t be exposures).

Frankly I feel like having travel this year when there are no fans is stupid as it just increases the risk. Probably the best solution would have been to play in Phoenix where there is the D-Backs stadium as well as 10 or 11 spring training fields nearby, and at least have a centralized location.

The crazy thing is MLB had a 113 page procedure manual and apparently nothing in it about a widespread outbreak (seems like very wishful thinking and I assumed the whole point of 60 man roster was to have essentially a replacement triple A team to play instead in case of a major outbreak in a team).

Multiple national baseball reporters have essentially conveyed the same message. Per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, MLB owners completed their weekly call earlier today and cancellation wasn't on the table. Commissioner Rob Manfred would have the final say regarding the viability of a season. The Marlins' situation is bad for a variety of reasons, but MLB is going to do their best to manage it for now. If the outbreak moves into another clubhouse, it's hard to see how this continues.

Marlins Season officially postponed

Craig Mish of SportsGrid reports that the Marlins' season has been "paused" for the time being.

It was the only real choice with a COVID-19 outbreak in their clubhouse. By last count, 17 individuals (including 15 players and two coaches) have tested positive. In addition to all of the safety concerns, the Marlins simply can't field a competitive team right now. It sounds like Monday is the target date for a possible return to action. There has also been talk about the Phillies (who played the Marlins over the weekend) pausing their season, possibly until Friday against the Blue Jays as they undergo testing. There should be more clarity on the situation soon, but this is not what anybody wants to see less than one week into the season.

Just caught the end of the Tony Bruno show but he had a unconfirmed rumor that a group of Marlins players decided to go out and have a good time while in Atlanta, or should I say Hotlanta or maybe it's the wings haha. Still if true that is in a way good news as selfish idiot actions can be fixed.

This is probably going to be two weeks or more of missed games. I don't see how they can possibly make up that many games unless they have to play a ton of double headers or re-start games very soon with a bunch of replacement players.

A bit harsh in my opinion, everyone knew this was coming to the astros, almost as if this pandemic has wiped everyone's mind of the asterisk on the 2017 champions

I don't know about that...players might think twice given how many games Kelly got. That is an insane amount of games in a 60 game season, especially when considering other factors like how no Astros player was suspended for cheating their way to a championship and also the fact that Kelly didn't even hit a batter. And listening to some of the interviews from the Astros owner and players really makes me sick. Jim Crane, the owner, said that what they did in 2017 had no impact on them winning the championship and that they would have won anyway. Well if it had no impact, then why did you do it?

Hoping the Astros don’t feel that they’re off the hook this season because of the lack of fans in attendance. If anything, it should just ensure this will likely spill over into next season when rabid fans return to stadiums.

Unless of course, MLB and Manfred would like to take real action on Houston players between now and then so that the players and the fanbases back off.

In fact, the team-issued press release states that Citizens Bank Park will be closed "until further notice." There have been no positives yet among the players on the Phillies' active roster after the club staged an opening-weekend series against the Marlins, who have been hit with a full-on COVID-19 outbreak. MLB Calls Off STL-MIL Game Due to COVID-19

The St. Louis Cardinals have had multiple members test positive for the coronavirus, resulting in Major League Baseball postponing Friday afternoon's game at the Milwaukee Brewers, a source told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

MLB's quick decision to postpone Friday's game, which was scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET, comes after the outbreak within the Miami Marlins, who have had 19 positive tests over the past week.

A source told ESPN's Jesse Rogers that if what is happening with the Cardinals had occurred before the Marlins outbreak, Friday's game at Miller Park would still be scheduled.

Phillies have 2 positive tests; series vs. Jays ppd.
That brings the number of teams being held out of action on Friday to six. The Brewers and Cardinals will join the Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays in teams affected by the fallout from positive tests.
