Just like in 1992 World Series where the Jays turned a triple play, which I believe would have been the first in WS history but because of the position of the umpire, the last out was not called... Gruber the Jays thirdbaseman was livid, but it hardly mattered... can't call what you can't see.
True, but this guy has a habit. Bad call Sunday, and a couple on Monday, all by the same ump.

The problem is that he also seems confused on the rules. I can understand maybe not seeing the play, but don't tell the player that they're out because the throw beat them, and that they didn't need to be tagged. Same thing for the call at home plate, when Teix got tagged with the non-ball-possessing hand. I understand close plays, and those are prone to human error, but these are simple baseball rules.

Jeter had a right to be mad for sure... he made a terrific slide. I would be livid as well.

I don't think there is a baseball game with not one bad call somewhere though... which usually sucks for our favorite teams half the time haha.

So the myth of Lenny Dykstra as a financial genius has officially been busted, as he filed for bankruptcy today. Not sure if anyone's been following his story but last year there was an article about what a guru he was at investing. He had an article on The Street that could be subscribed to for $1,000/year. Since then there have been numerous articles that claim he's a fraud, and most of the investment advice in the column was actually taken from another investor. ESPN.com had a fantastic article a couple months back that pretty much showed what a jerk he was and that he was really nearly broke. Some highlights are his refusal to pay pilots for his private plane and conning them into buying his fuel, calling his mother at 3 am because he was stuck in Cleveland and broke and getting her to buy him a plane ticket and never paying him back, and buying Wayne Gretzky's California home at the height of the market with plans of flipping it and seeing it's value plummet.

Anyone see the calls against Manny last night, before he was ejected?

I've never been a Manny fan, but even I'd stick up for him last night, because it seemed like Hirschbeck (the home-plate ump last night) had some sort of personal grudge against Manny.

For those who didn't see it, Manny was called out on a 3rd strike in the 1st inning, which looked like it was clearly off the plate. Manny argued with Hirschbeck for a second, as he walked back to the dugout. Chalk that one up to being a bad call.

In his 2nd and 3rd at bats, he got a few hits, and 3 RBIs. Moving on...

In his 4th at-bat, there's a 3-1 count, and the next pitch is clearly off the plate. Manny starts to head toward first, and Hirschbeck calls it a strike. Next pitch, just as far off the plate, if not more. Manny starts heading to first again. Hirschbeck calls it a strike, and Manny is out.

Obviously somewhat annoyed that the ump apparently has something against him, Manny starts walking toward left field, after tossing his helmet and bat toward the dugout, and then takes off his elbow-pad and throws it up in the air. It lands in the home-plate area, but Hirschbeck had his back turned, and was facing the Mets dugout. The Mets fans start going crazy, and you can see Hirschbeck look over at a fan, who is pointing toward the elbow-pad. He then turns and see's Manny walking away, and ejects him from the game.

I understand there's a lot of hate toward Manny, because of his personality, and especially because of the steroids, but an umpire should not let that effect the way they call a game. There's no way someone can watch the calls from last night and think they were just close calls. Hirschbeck clearly has something against Manny, and maybe it was only a temporary rough "welcome back" sort of treatment, but in any case it shouldn't have happened, and I hope the league calls Hirschbeck in for a meeting.

I'm not a Manny fan anymore for pretty obvious reasons, but I'd side with him on this whole deal.

I was thinking the same thing, but I've also been watching a lot more games over the last few years than ever before, especially this year. (And by more games, I mean more Yankees games, not other teams).

What annoys me is when umpires make what seem like situational calls, to put themselves in the game. It's one of the reasons I've always hated overly enthusiastic umpires, who go a bit overboard with their strikeout calls. It makes me think that they think they're just as much a part of the game, and there to entertain people.

There were close plays in crucial parts of a game (like in extra innings) where the umpires seemed to make delayed calls, as if they were building up the drama. A close play at home, the crowd would think the guy was safe, and cheer. And then 2 seconds later, the umpire runs up and punches the guy out, and the crowd goes crazy.

Even though it might seem bad these last few years, it's still far better than in something like the NBA, where the entire game can essentially be in the hands of the officials.

The guy is a piece of dirt imo, they had a special on one of the hbo sports segments and he basically said $#$# off to those that he owes money too. He is a con man and deserves to go to jail if he continues to refuse to pay his debt! Not to mention the guy sounds about as intellegent as a brick, either that or he is a stroke recovery victim because he does not sound all there if you know what i mean!

Blue Jays release BJ Ryan.

FINALLY... sad story really... had an awesome 2006 and then tommy john surgery ruined him... he costs us countless games this season... very frustrating!

"Ryan dominated in 2006, striking out more than four times as many as he walked and allowing 30 fewer hits than innings pitched. However, he's been a major disappointment since missing 2007 with Tommy John surgery. He was effective last year, but has struggled in 2009, walking 7.4 batters per nine with a career-low strikeout rate and more hits allowed than innings pitched."

It's a shame he hurt himself, he definitely helped make the Jays more exciting in 2006. I remember going to work that whole summer and everybody always keeping up with the Jays, bummer he went out on a low note in Toronto.

Yeah I agree about 2006, we managed to finish ahead of the Red Sox that year thanks to a healthy BJ Ryan. If we had a good starting rotation that year, we probably could have gotten the wild card.

The 2006 Blue Jays had more wins than the World Series Champs that year in the Cardinals... and somehow people think the Blue Jays suck... sigh

I think it was his 11th actually, really trumps the clown manager in texas crying about millwood who gave up like 9 runs in his last start!

Yes sorry, 11 and 3 now - it was funny watching Cabrera last night, using his hands to describe what the knuckleball looks like coming at you at the plate. It was really dancing last night, I could actually see the ball fluttering from pitch replays.

Citizens Bank Park in Philly is nice, got the chance to catch the Reds game on Thursday night. The Rogers Centre feels so dated by comparison.

In other news, Halladay is getting swamped with questions apparently and according to ESPN it's 50/50 about him being traded this month.
