god Bard is such a beast low is 96 !!! I pray they don't lose him.

I'd really rather they wait a year get some ground and then go after a championship they don't need to pull a yankee and deal two long term VERY quality pitchers to win now.

if they could get lee by dealing ramon ramirez, clay, and hideki okajima then maybe thats a good deal. but if they give clay and bard and more they've made a mistake.

The Nats stingy ways make people not care about them. It sounds like they aren't going to sign Strasburg, so the one person that may get people in the seats doesn't look to be coming anytime soon. I just don't understand how the Nats can't show Strasburg and Boras that they have all the leverage. Barring a late run the Nats will end up with the worst record, and thus have the number 1 pick in next year's draft and the number 2 pick as compensation for not signing Strasburg. They need to make an offer to Strasburg, say $15 million, which would still be the biggest offer ever to a draft pick. If he declines they should tell him they will draft him number 1 in next year's draft and their offer will be identical next year and they won't budge on it. Boras said Strasburg is considering playing in Japan, so the Nats should tell him to go ahead and see if he's bluffing. He should be worried about becoming like the pitcher a few years back that turned down big contracts for years and ended up throwing his arm out and now changes tires at a Costco for $12/hour.

ESPN is reporting that a deal between the Phillies and Indians for Cliff Lee could be close. Cleveland scouts are at today's game for Phillie's triple-A team, and the Phillies scratched today's starter Carlos Carrasco without explaining why. On the radio they are saying this could also factor into a Halladay trade but talks have been slow. Halladay is scheduled to start today so if he pitches it could mean a trade is unlikely.

JP is screwed. If he trades Halladay now, everyone hates him. If he waits on Halladay during the offseason or in 2010, he gets less (and everyone hates him). I'm glad he seems to be keeping his ground with the Phillies but... he sure is in a pickle.

Looks like Cliff Lee to the Phillies is done for four prospects: right-handed pitchers Carlos Carrasco and Jason Knapp, as well as shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson.

lol Gosh with that the Jays might get next to nothing for hall if they don't get a deal done in the next 2 days.

As good as he is he isn't worth 3 + future starters. 2 and maybe 1 or 2 lotto players but not 3+

It certainly looks that way, getting a Cy Young pitcher and not giving up either of your 2 best prospects. I think Toronto overplayed it's hand and won't be able to get a deal as good as what Philly offered either now or after the season. They should take the best offer they can get and keep their annual rebuilding process going.

I think the three player deal the sox offered was a very good deal you'd be able to dump that wells contract. Get Clay (oh he was hitting 97 most of the night) and the other young OF.

Yeah, ESPN loves to report something, then report the opposite, because I saw on the morning Sportscenter that they had made an offer including Clay, but then saw on the noon Sportscenter that the Red Sox denied any offer with Clay in it.

seems to me they are making mistakes weekly about reporting stuff.

Ortiz tested positive for steroids in 2003, and I'm guessing he stopped taking them sometime in the last off-season.
