I heard the Phillies are going after Halladay.

If that's the case, they're the new Yankees, in terms of buying championships. A rotation with Lee/Halladay/Hamels (assuming Hamels hasn't completely lost it) would be nearly impossible to stop.

That is a nasty rotation.

Do the Phillies have the players to get Halladay? I know there was a couple prospects they wouldn't give up when they were negotiating with the Blue Jays during the season, but maybe after not winning the Series they'd reconsider. I wonder if Halladay would consider signing an extension with the Phillies or if he's set on becoming a free agent after the season. I can't imagine the Phillies would be able to offer a contract that could compete with what the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, or Angels would likely offer.

Also, if the Phillies were to get Halladay that wouldn't make them the new Yankees. The Yankees buy players, the Phillies acquire players. Few of the Philly players were huge money free agents, and they've made some good moves to acquire Lee and possibly Halladay.

I thought he despises the national league for having to bat.

Halladay has said that. I think the Blue Jays had some pitchers get injured last season during interleague play while running the bases. I think Halladay would be willing to play one year in Philadelphia rather than stay in Toronto, and maybe he would grow to accept batting in exchange for easier pitching.

The end result is the same, because people get on the Yankees for not growing their own talent.

Whether you "acquire" players by trading other players or trading money doesn't really make a difference, and picking them up from the free agent pool isn't all that different either. You're still assembling a team of stars instead of growing your own.

No, I think he's pointing out that driving under the influence is driving under the influence. Which is true. They don't have to have the same effects to affect your driving.

I don't like the way MLB hands out awards after the season. They try to milk it by releasing a few at a time, which seems pointless.

They might as well make an event of it, and begin a tradition of announcing all winners (RotY, MVP, Cy Young, etc) at the same event, at the same time every year (something like the first Tuesday after the World Series, or something, so people know when it will happen).

They may have reasons for doing it the way they currently do, that I'm just unaware of.

Yeah, I was so unaware of all the awards, you'd think with how well MLB does history they'd be able to get better press on their awards.

Shame my two got such little respect

Here's the schedule, for anyone who wants it:

Nov 12th - AL and NL Silver Slugger Awards
Nov 16th - AL and NL Rookie of the Year Awards
Nov 17th - AL Cy Young Award
Nov 18th - AL and NL Manager of the Year Awards
Nov 19th - NL Cy Young Award
Nov 23rd - AL MVP Award
Nov 24th - NL MVP Award

If they want to milk it that long, why not do one per month, and try to carry it all the way to spring training?

Can Chapman sign now or does he have to wait until the start of free agency? I think he could sign now but I'm not sure.

I'd be shocked if Peter Angelos is willing to match the kind of money the Yanks and Red Sox will offer this kid. The Orioles aren't a cheap team but I can't imagine them giving $40-$60 million to an unproven pitcher.

Notes (for those who don't want to compare):
*The Twins moved from 4th to 3rd, due to their 1 win in the 1-game playoff with the Tigers.
*Dodgers moved from 16th to 14th.
*Phillies moved from 22nd to 19th.
*Angels moved from 21st to 20th.
*Yankees moved out of last place into 29th. Mets suck.
*Winning a World Series is obviously priceless, but if I were able to attach a value to the Yankees' Game 6 win, they'd probably be #1 on the list.
