Derek Jeter was named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year, becoming the first Yankee to win the award in it's 56 year history. I'm surprised a Yankee has never won this award and while I hate the Yankees I don't have a problem with Jeter winning the award. He has always been a great role model and has never been accused of steroids or any crimes that have plagued baseball over the last 5 years.

Indeed, it's well deserved! Derek Jeter is my favorite Baseball player! It's also awesome he plays on my favorite MLB team!

I heard a rumor that he was going to be named the Sportsman of the Year a few days ago, but I didn't know it was made official.

Also, happy belated 40th b-day to Mo, because I'm pretty sure he reads the forums.

About time Halladay takes a stand but I'm not sure I believe it. Come mid-season when the Blue-jays are in the bottom of the AL East, would he really reject a trade to a contending team? Who knows...

The Blue-jays are going to have to lessen their demands.

Some ridiculous trade rumors i've heard:

Yankees gives one of Hughes or Joba + Montero + Jackson

Any deal with the Redsox starts with Buchholz and a handful of top prospects

Next week's winter meetings should be interesting...

I wouldn't do it for Buchholz, or Joba we saw how dominate he could be when he's in a stable position in the back end of the rotation. I would dump hughes thats a question mark, but all that! The jays are crazy.

The Yankees were apparently considering picking up Mike Cameron, to fill in at LF for a season or so, since Damon is likely not coming back. But that will likely no longer be an option, since Cameron is going to be signed by the Cubs.

Cano apparently ran into Pedro Martinez at a golf course yesterday, and said he'd welcome Pedro to the Yankees next year. It'd be odd, but I wonder if he could be effective as a reliever.

The Dodgers would probably be willing to give Manny to the Yankees, they probably wouldn't even have to give anything in return. Manny had the option to opt-out and didn't so he must not want out too bad. Of course Manny is making $22.5 million this season with the Dodgers, and if he were to become a free agent he wouldn't be able to get half that.

As a Cubs fan I'd love for the Yankees to take Soriano. He doesn't have a good attitude and refuses to accept the fact that he no longer has the skill to be a lead off hitter but whenever they change his spot he gets mopey. Soriano's contract is badly hurting the Cubs so if they could get rid of the 5 years/$90 million remaining I'd love it. Cubs GM Jim Hendry has a good reputation but I'm not sure why considering the horrible contract he gave to Soriano and Milton Bradley. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the most knowledgable fan but even I knew Bradley was going to fail. He needs to be in the AL so he can DH around 1/3 of the year and he hates the media so Chicago is the worst place he can be.

If the offer was similar to what he got last year, I'm surprised he would've rejected it.

For last season, he turned down a guaranteed amount for an incentive-based contract, which would've earned him slightly more if he completed all the goals. I think he ended up making slightly more than what they would've given him anyway under the first offer (like 200k more), but if that's what motivates him, good for him (since I wish all contracts were incentive-based).

So maybe he just wants another one of those.

Plus I imagine it's probably routine to reject the first offer, and then they come back with a slightly higher offer, and you take that one. Since Pettitte knows they want him back, I don't think he's worried about them saying "take this or leave it", and not making another offer.

That must hurt the ego a bit.
