If I were stuck playing 162 meaningless games a year in Kansas City I'd be estatic to leave.

The Giants may be in contention for their division but I doubt they will fare that well in the post-season, Guillen isn't going to do much to change that or the Royals wouldn't be letting him go.

Sure they would. The Royals have always given up decent players to contenders for practically free. And Anyone can win the NL this year. It's not like there's any clear favorite. I'd peg St. Louis as slightly better than the rest, but not by much.

Giants acquired OF Jose Guillen and cash considerations from the Royals for a player to be named later.
Financial details have not been disclosed, but the Royals are expected to pick up a a significant portion of the $3-million plus remaining on Guillen's contract for this season. We're not sure where the veteran outfielder will fit in with his new club, but it will be unfortunate if he cuts into Pat Burrell's playing time. Aug. 13 - 12:17 pm et

Ahh... the famous "player to be named later." Does anyone know of a single case in MLB history where a "player to be named later" actually turned out to be an important player for the team they were traded to? I can't think of any.

I believe July 31 is the non waiver deadline. Players have to clear waivers from now on.

I would say the Twins should put in a claim for Guillen but we have one of the best trios of outfielders in the league so I hope they don't.

Guillen was more of a DH with the Royals. I forget, who is the Twins usual DH?

Jason Kubel and the 40 year old Jim Thome rotate there. Had no idea Thome was that old...

The Dodgers' Approach To Matt Kemp

He “was slow to learn to be a professional,” someone who drew the ire of his manager and “infuriate[d] some members of the organization” with his approach. No, we're not talking about Matt Kemp, though similar things have certainly been said about him this season. Various reporters used those words to describe Yunel Escobar before and after the Braves traded him to the Blue Jays last month.

By all accounts Escobar did not fit into Bobby Cox's system. Now, on the other side of the country, Kemp is in a similar situation. Earlier in the week, Joe Torre benched him twice, ostensibly to keep Jay Gibbons in the lineup. That decision probably didn't sit well with Kemp, but it's not what his agent complained to the LA Times about. Dave Stewart, who represents Kemp, suggested that coaches Bob Schaefer and Larry Bowa criticize Kemp unfairly. A trade, Stewart said, might be best for Kemp and the Dodgers.

Colletti doesn't want to trade Kemp
Quote:
Matt Kemp's agent Dave Stewart suggested that the Dodgers should think about trading his client.
"It's almost like it's open season on Matt, and it's not right," said Stewart. "It's a bunch of back-seat crap. I'm almost to the point--and maybe so are the Dodgers--where I'm thinking that this just isn't going to work. The Dodgers have gaps on this team, and maybe they could fill them by trading Matt. It could be good for the team, and good for the player." Kemp has taken a step back this season, but Stewart is disappointed by the way his client has been publicly criticized by members of the team's coaching staff and front office at various points this season. For what it's worth, Dodgers GM Ned Colletti expressed some regret for how the situation has been handled and also said he has no plans to trade Kemp.

Hey Kemp try playing with a little...you know...heart once in awhile then maybe the coaches won't be ridding you the whole season. And perhaps stop daydreaming about Rhianna's pink vibrator during games you worthless POS!!

BRAVES JONES INTENDS TO RETURN NEXT YEAR AFTER KNEE SURGERY

ATLANTA -- Chipper Jones says he is not retiring without trying to come back from season-ending knee surgery.

Jones, speaking Friday for the first time since the team announced he tore his left anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the season, says he will have surgery on the knee Saturday.

The 38-year-old Jones says now is not the right time to "make a decision to quit."

He says he will go through the rehab process before making a final decision on his future.

He said earlier this season he would consider retirement after the season.

The expected recovery time is about six months, giving him a chance to be ready for spring training in 2011.

He was hurt in Tuesday night's game at Houston.

Chipper is just being stubborn, at 38 the chances he will be an effective player again after such a devastating injury are rather slim.

The fact that Chipper is due $26 million over the next 2 years could have something to do with his decision to return. If he returns and is horrible the team will have to buy out his contract.
