Joel Zumaya has hit 103 MPH in a game before. A few years back Billy Koch was around that speed on occasion. It is presumed someone like Strasburg or Verlander could probably hit that figure if they were relievers and did not have to pitch an entire game.

A kid who's having Tommy John surgery tomorrow can hit 103 MPH in a game? That's insane.

He also hit another catcher with a cheap shot recently as well I believe.
That 1st baseman was a cheap a$$ getting in the middle of it lmao Morgan punished that pitcher lol.

Carlos Delgado has a small tear in his left hip, according to his agent David Sloane.
Delgado flew to Colorado on Wednesday in order to be examined by Dr. Marc Phillipon, who performed his previous two hip surgeries. He'll return to Pawtucket in order to go over the potential treatment options, however surgery hasn't been ruled out. "He felt fine when he signed," said Sloane. "He was playing. He was headed in right direction. All of a sudden, he felt pain there. Everything at this point is up in the air. He’s going to need some time to think about the next step." One wonders if that next step might be retirement. Sep. 2 - 2:03 pm et

CC just pitched a gem...anyone know what his pitch count was? Girardi never lets him finish out the games!

I know all about that, Liriano seems to have a 7 inning cap when he pitches, even if he hasn't thrown a lot of pitches or allowed any runs.

Sabathia was very efficient. He threw 95 pitches in 8 innings. No reason at all he couldn't finish off a shutout. Pitch counts are among the dumbest baseball ideas ever created.

Chapman was hitting above 100 mph when he was doing 6+ innings worth of work in AAA. He's a freak of nature.

Did the Yankees or Red Sox try to sign this guy? Seems weird he ended up in Cincinnati. You'd think one of the bigger market teams would have offered him a much bigger contract.

As an international player not born in the U.S. he was a free agent desired by many teams. The Reds apparently offered the best terms.

Many were surprised the Yankees or Red Sox did not sign him, any team could have signed him.

Not only that, but they used two starting pitchers in relief, including today's starter Brian Duensing.

its Girardi... he pulls pitchers early all the time seemingly for no reason...i feel like he goes by the book/percentages and match ups more than actually managing and going with your gut or instinct

No need to push him any further since they had a big lead and it was very hot here in NYC (it's hotter on the field as well).

Right... in the position that the Yankees are in, I will sacrifice one regular season inning from CC to get an extra inning when the money's on the line... especially given the five run lead they had.

Not to mention, you need to get Joba some work in (even though he's been pitching well, you still want him to continue working out his problems which part of it is his slider).

I was listening to Buster Olney this morning on Sportscenter and he thinks Felix Hernandez is the current front runner for AL Cy Young. CC Sabathia leads the AL in wins with 19 versus Felix's 10 but Hernandez leads the league in strikeouts, is second in ERA, and is fifth in WHIP (CC isn't in the top 5 in any of these stats). CC also has by far the highest-scoring offense supporting him, while Fernandez has by far the lowest-scoring offense, so the win-loss records are hard to compare. Olney said recent history has shown Cy Young voters are looking more at stats than win-loss and that could give Felix the edge.

I think Stephen Strasburg is going to win it, just kidding. Francisco Liriano and Brian Duensing have a better chance and I guarantee neither of them will even be in the conversation.
