Robertson is usually a decent middle-reliever. Not sure what happened there.

I wasn't trying to hate on the guy (Robertson), just wanted to answer Steve's question!

Tomorrow will be the biggest game of the year for the Yanks. They lose tomorrow its over, no way they can win 3 in a row

Haha. I was a little annoyed at Texas scoring on the wild pitch. At that point it was already 7-0, and the guy was clearly going to be out if Mitre held onto the ball (I think that was who was pitching, but I don't remember).

If it was a passed ball that was far away, I could see a guy from third jogging in. But on a ball that barely got away from Posada, and with a 7 run lead, it seems a bit too aggressive (or greedy? or unsportsmanlike?) to try for an 8th on a play like that.

Although who knows, maybe they were trying to help the Yankees out of the inning, by giving them what should've been an easy out, had Mitre not dropped the ball.

~~~
To be clear, I don't think Pettitte should've been pushed back to Game 4, for Burnett. The rotation should've gone like this:
1 - Sabathia
2- Pettitte
3 - Burnett
4 - Hughes
5 - Sabathia
6 - Pettitte
7 - Hughes + bullpen
Given Pettitte's playoff experience, I think it would've made more sense to have him pitch game 2, so that Hughes could pitch one of the home games.
I guess the only reason they didn't do that is because they wouldn't want Hughes pitching in Game 7, on short rest. But there's no guarantee of the series going to 7 innings, and if it did, I think asking Hughes to only get a few innings, and then relying on the bullpen for the rest would work fine. It's the last game of the series, so you can afford to use every guy you have in the bullpen.
Do you think they should stay with Burnett for game 4?
I was wondering the same thing. But if you're using a car in NY, you're doing it wrong.
I wouldn't take it that far. If they lose tomorrow, it's probably over, but I wouldn't call it over yet. Winning 3 in a row isn't, in and of itself, the hard part. Beating Lee is.
It's a tough call, but I'd probably say no. I'd bump him to Game 5, and let Sabathia pitch tomorrow.
If you start with the assumption that Burnett is going to lose (which I tend to do), I think it makes more sense for his loss to make the series 3-2 than to make it 3-1.
3-1 puts your back against the wall, and isn't fun.
3-2 still seems surmountable.
On the other hand, if Burnett actually goes out and pitches a good game tomorrow, it'd be nice to have a 2-2 series with all your good pitchers left for the last 3 games.
Burnett's start may be like bad medicine. You don't want to take it, but as soon as you get it over with, the sooner you can possibly feel better.
I swear Craig Sager is the biggest tool asking Josh Hamilton if he thinks they're better than the Yankees.
Good points. It's sort of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. The one scenario that would effectively end the series is NY bringing back Sabathia for game 5 and losing, falling behind 3-1 with Burnett pitching game 5. At least getting Burnett out of the way they can stick to their reliable startes the rest of the games.
Just got back from watching the game at a friends house. In standard def. Yuk! Anyways, you 2-hit these Yankees, you're one damn good pitcher. I don't want to get too attached to Lee because he'll probably be gone to the Yankees or Sox or some other super rich team in a heartbeat. But damn, that dude is good.
I know you're all saying "Don't underestimate Burnett," but don't underestimate Hunter either. I'm confident about tomorrow. Even if Girardi does what is best for his team and starts Sabathia.
I'd agree on Hunter. The guy was 13-4 with a 3.73 ERA on the year. That's a pretty damn good 4th string pitcher by any measure.
Cliff Lee just dominated that great lineup, which is frankly more impressive than the no-hitter thrown by Halladay with a pitcher in the lineup. I really hope the Rangers sign him, but I have a sinking feeling he will be doing this next year in pinstripes.
The Cubs removed the interim tag from Mike Quade, hiring him as their manager with a 2-year deal. Quade was considered a long-shot for the job after Lou Piniella resigned but the team played well with Quade at manager. I'm curious how Ryne Sandberg is going to take this. Joe Girardi also just lost a lot of leverage with the Yankees, although if they are eliminated by Texas the Yankees might not have a problem letting him leave.
And he did it NY. I don't really know who has been more impressive. Halladay, Lincecum or Lee. Three amazing performances.
I hate that guy and his stupid clothes. How the hell did he get that job?
Amazing performance by Lee. That's a trade that has lived up to the hype.
Yankees should be down 3-0 if it weren't for that insane 8th inning, will be interesting to see if the Rangers can go up a backbreaking 3-1 or not.
