Jeter gets another award he doesn't deserve. Probably should have gone to Alexei Ramirez. OF is pretty good, but Gardner may have deserved it over Gutierrez.

As a Red Sox Fan, I enjoyed watching Beltre at third, but he made too many errors this season. Pedroia and Youkilis were both injured for a large portion of the season, so awards for them wouldn't have been appropriate.

Cano was good, there wasn't anyone who had enough time that I would have placed ahead of him.

This year Jeter didn't face much competetition, true. In years past when he's won there have been much better candidates, 2006 comes to mind.

Anyone have any predictions for the NL?

According to Tyler Kepner and Michael S. Schmidt of the New York Times, Jorge Posada will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee on Wednesday.
The procedure is not serious, but it just gives the Yankees even more reason to think about what their ballclub will look like without him. With that in mind, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman informed Posada that he should be prepared to compete with top prospect Jesus Montero for the starting catcher job during spring training. "Cashman told Posada that he should come in preparing to catch, but they are going to give Montero a real shot," a source tells the Times. "And Cashman said that Posada should prepare to D.H. a lot." Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Derek Jeter and his agent Casey Close recently met with Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner, team president Randy Levine and general manager Brian Cashman.
Heyman thinks negotiations may "take a while," but that the two sides will eventually work something out. Of course, we already knew that, but it will be interesting to hear if the Yankees approach Jeter about dropping him in the lineup or an eventual position change. Yeah he is still one of the best catchers in baseball, don't think we've ever had a catcher before with such a good arm to get base runners out when they try to steal.

Cano was phenomenal this year. I hope he takes care of himself in the off season and puts out the same performance next season.

Wilson should def host SNL..he's hilarious and he's a WS champion! I don't see why he wouldn't do it.

A source tells Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com that Cliff Lee was "not terribly happy in Texas" and is concerned about how his body would hold up pitching in the Texas heat.
Lee is a great pitcher no matter the venue, but he is 32 years old and dealt with a back problem during the second half of the season. My first game i went to this season...very very early in the season, i turned to my buddy and said, mark my words, Cano has his breakout season and will be in MVP contention....Cano will play like this for a long time i think, his swing is just too nice

i hate the way they calculate some of these things...idk if he shoulda won the gold glove but i really doubt hes the 2nd worst at his position.... he had the lowest amount of errors in his entire career

It's about time. I was thinking that maybe he would never fulfill the hype which surrounded him when he first came up.

Errors don't mean anything if you can't go get the ball. His range factor is down a point form 2005(3.78 vs 4.76).

Some think it was because of the "Melky-factor"...I like Melky but some did not. Many claim that him and Cano were immature etc. and didn't take a lot of things seriously. Once Melky left, Cano completely changed.

IDK what to make of it, but at least he produced and did good things for the team. I think it's good to have a young presence on the team. Remember Shelley Duncan? He brought a lot of energy to the team. Now Swisher handles "firing up" the team. Swisher is the man though! He was the only one who really engaged the fans when I was at spring training this year. Some lady was calling out for Jeter until he finally responded..it was pretty funny though.

Yeah I did a double take when I saw he won this year. I realize Gold Gloves are nothing more than popularity contest prizes but come on this is getting ridiculous.

Mariano Rivera's agent had a meeting last week in Tampa with Yankees owners Hal and Hank Steinbrenner.
Rivera is a free agent this winter but is fully expected to return to the Bronx and probably won't even entertain offers from other clubs. The future Hall of Famer posted a gorgeous 1.80 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in 60 innings for the Yanks this year while converting 33 of 38 save opportunities. Buster Posey, Neftali Feliz win awards

NEW YORK -- San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey and Texas Rangers closer Neftali Feliz have been voted the Rookies of the Year.

Posey won the National League award in voting announced Monday by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Feliz won the American League honor.

Posey drew 20 first-place votes on the 32 ballots. He was called up from Triple-A in late May and hit .305 with 18 home runs and 67 RBIs for the eventual World Series champions.

Feliz set a rookie record with 40 saves in helping Texas reach the World Series for the first time. The rocket-armed righty was listed first on 20 of the 28 ballots.
