Drew is a big guess on if he can stay healthy with that back I'd also like to see a better 5 spot as-well. I agree on Upton that would be crazy if they could pull that off.

Masterson didn't grow up in Boston. He was born in Jamaica and grew up in Indiana and Ohio.

Delcarmen grew up in Boston.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Diamondbacks are "looking hard" at free agent first baseman Derrek Lee.
The D'Backs just lost a major power bat in their trade of Mark Reynolds to the Orioles and are hoping to gain some of his production back via cheap free agent deals. Lee hit just .260/.347/.428 this year for the Cubs and Braves, but he did finish with 19 home runs and could easily top that number in the hitter-friendly confines of Arizona's Chase Field. As a Braves fan, I was hoping they would have kept Lee in case Freddie Freeman struggles, but Lee is a class act and good luck to him where ever he decided to go, except for the Mets

You say this as if nobody is saying Werth's new contract was too much either.

When your own agent supposedly says he didn't even bother seeing if any other teams wanted to match the offer, you know you were being offered too much.

Even the Phillies fans won't be upset with Werth for leaving because that contract is just ludicrous. Werth's contract is more than the total of all the contracts the Expos/Nationals have spent on free agents in the last 20 years.

My question is, if Werth is worth $126 million over 7 years, what is Carl Crawford worth? Crawford is 2 years younger, is a better fielder, and had a higher batting average and RBI total (and played in a much tougher league and division). Crawford has to be looking at a similar deal to Mark Teixeira's 8-year, $180 million deal. The only concern for Crawford has to be if the Yankees get Lee and decide they can't afford another $100+ contract. The Angels don't get along with Scott Boras and usually don't give contracts that long. The Red Sox have never given a deal longer than 6 years and might not be able to afford both Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. The Rangers and Tigers are possibilities as well, although I can't see either of those teams giving him a $180 million deal.

Sox preferred Werth, and weren't willing to go above 15-16M/per for him. No way they go above 15M on Crawford. Besides, the Sox don't need another left-handed bat.

Sox are more likely to go after Ordonez, Quentin, or Jermaine Dye.
