Just got back from lunch when I heard on my radio that Brian Wilson will be on the Jim Rome radio show at about 1:30 EST today. You know it's going to be epic.

In an interview with Joel Sherman of the New York Post, CC Sabathia didn't rule out the possibility that he could opt out of his contract after this season.
"Anything is possible in a contract," said Sabathia. The big left-hander is entering the third year of his seven-year, $161 million contract with the Yankees, but can exercise an opt-out clause after 2011. It may sound unlikely on the surface, but keep in mind that Cliff Lee's $25 million annual salary currently trumps Sabathia's $23 million annual salary. Considering that Sabathia is two years younger, he shouldn't close the door on anything.

He isn't going anywhere. Nobody is going to pay him more that what he makes right now with NY.

Hard to say. Rome's show has hundreds of stations across the country. It's on 740 The Game in Central FL. No idea about the Bay Area. I'd do an online search to see what his channel is out there.

It's probably true nobody would pay him more than he makes in New York, but it would make sense to sign a new, longer deal after the season, while he's healthy and younger, rather than waiting for his contract to expire when he's 35. He's due $92 million over the last 4 years of his deal. I would think if he had another good year he could parlay that into something like a 6-year, $150 million deal. His agent should be talking to the Yankees now about an extension rather than having to opt-out.

The Cubs have signed closer Carlos Marmol to a 3-year, $20 million contract. Marmol was arbitration eligible for the next 2 seasons. This seems like a solid deal for both sides. The Cubs lock up their closer for 3 years at a reasonable rate while Marmol gets long-term security and avoids the hassle of arbitration. Marmol had 38 saves last season with a 2.55 ERA.

That's exactly when I'm thinking this is. Just CC and his agent trying to get more years/money locked in from the Yankees. Makes sense too. Yankees will probably bite to keep him happy and locked up long-term.

Good signing. Marmol is still in his prime and it is a short term contract.

CC says he lost 25 pounds by giving up Cap'n Crunch

So how did CC Sabathia shed 25 pounds and get to 290 this offseason?

“By not eating Captain Crunch every day,’’ the Yankees ace said at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Monday. "I got with a nutritionist and a chef and changed my whole diet and the pounds dropped off.’’

Sabathia, who looked noticeably thinner in the face, started dieting after undergoing right knee surgery in October to repair a meniscus. Shortly after the surgery he started a workout program that included two cardio sessions a day and weight lifting.

And he has stayed with the diet.
