Ya, there seems to be an inverse coorelation between the Yankees payroll and championships. The more they spend the less often they seem to win titles.

Here's the 1998 MLB top payrolls. This was the year the Yankees won 114 games with one of their greatest teams ever. They still spent more than most teams but the gap was relatively small. The gap between the Yankees payroll and everyone else didn't begin to soar till around 2003, peaked a couple years ago and has somewhat narrowed since.

For the most part the players had no contact with the fans. Kosuke Fukudome was the only player who came over to sign autographs before the game and he only did it for a couple minutes. I was a little surprised that more players didn't come over to sign autographs. I didn't stay after the game to see if more players signed autographs though.

That sucks lol... I guess with the amount of time they spend down there they do things on different days.

Damn, Braves coach Salazar lost his eye after getting hit with a line-drive in a game against St. Louis. Ouch.

Joe Mauer (knee) will make his spring debut Wednesday against the Mets.
As expected. He'll bat third and be the designated hitter. The Twins brought Mauer along slowly following offseason knee surgery, but he has been catching bullpens is recent days, so he's probably not far away from catching his first game of the spring, as well. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, there's no reason why he shouldn't be ready for Opening Day.

Expect to see a lot more of that from now on. One of the reasons I scooped Gardy up in the fantasy league.

What position is Harper playing in the big leagues? I believe he played several positions in HS and college.

Right now I believe they have him listed as an outfielder even though he was a catcher or firstbaseman I can't remember which one he "loved" or whatever.

If he's already having injury issues they really should keep put him at 1B or OF and away from catching.

I was just looking at the Nationals lineup to see what position they need help at in the future (looks like everything but right field), and was shocked to learn that Ivan Rodriguez was still playing. I thought he retired years ago.

lol noooo he's beasting it up in DC

I was really hoping Drew Storen would step up huge, but he's had a terrible time this spring and is just getting clubbed every time he goes in.

Ian Desmond could be a jem if he gets a bit better at hitting for SS he's only 25.

Other than Desmond (who can still blow it and suck), and Zim (he looked bad fielding a bunch last year) they really need help at every position in-terms of long term strategy.

I really hope Jordan Zimmermann can come back from his surgery he looked promising prior to that.

Ya, I only noticed Pudge last season when I tuned in to see Strasburg pitch. He actually put up fairly decent numbers for a 38 year old catcher. I really think he was a good asset catching for Strasburg.
