Twins win 5-3 to send Baltimore to its 8th straight loss, so much for their 6-1 start to the season.

Here is the team-by-team list

2011 MLB Salaries by team
So A Rod only makes about $4 million less than the entire Royals team, A Rod and CC combined make more ($56.2 million) than 6 teams, A Rod, CC, and Tiexeira make more (just under $80 million) than 12 teams, and A Rod, CC, Tiexeira, and Burnett make more combined (almost $96 million) than 18 teams. I saw comments from the former MLB Player's Association president that the NFL players were stupid to ever agree to a salary cap, but at least with a salary cap every team has to spend significant money due to the salary floor, rather than having 12 teams spending significant money and 10 teams spending very little money.

Yes, as we all know, the Yankees are in their own financial universe.

Nice bargain prices for Bucholz (550K) and Gonzalez (6.3M) for the Sox this this year. Next year they skyrocket to just under 10 million and 21.5 million next year respectively. Granted they'll save 55 million dollars worth of expiring contracts after this season though they've already spent nearly 25 million of it on the two mentioned above.

A salary cap will never happen. The players association will never let it. Also, what about those teams who's owners get money from revenue sharing and just pocket it (Marlins, Pirates) instead of putting back into the team?

With the Phillies fast approaching. Baseball needs a salary cap desperately for the sake of the sport. 10 teams spending a lot and 10 spends spending little is really damaging the sport's competition.

Yeah and those teams who get money via revenue sharing and their owner/s just pocket it is right? Again, a salary cap will never happen in MLB.

Be nice to see all that spending by the Twins start equaling a winning record soon.

They'll be digging their own grave then unfortunately. In today's world professional sports leagues should be required to have a salary caps. Without one it's an uneven playing field.

Since 2001, of the 10 World Series Champions, only 3 had a payroll over $100m, 2 were in the $90M range, 2 more were in the $80M range, and one was as low as $40M.

I don't believe a salary cap is necessary, a salary floor might be in the player's best interest.

First I want to point out that my post wasn't meant as an attack on the Yankees, it was just to point out the disparity in baseball where one team can have 4 guys that make more than 60% of the teams in the league.

But you're right, a salary cap won't happen because neither the players nor owners want a cap. Teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, White Sox, and Phillies don't want a cap because they want to be able to spend as much as they want. Conversely, teams like the Royals, Pirates, and Padres don't want a salary cap because if you have a cap you'd have to have a salary floor, which would be more than double their current payrolls. The owners of those teams are perfectly content spending $35-$45 million, getting last place in their division, and making boatloads of money thanks to revenue sharing.
