It crushed me at first when I discovered all the personal problems that Kirby Puckett had off the field. He seemed like such a nice guy and was incredibly fun to watch play, even when he beat my Braves in the World Series.

I was no fan of the signing, but Uggla has looked atrocious now at the plate for about half a season. He literally looks like he has forgotten every fundamental lesson of hitting that he ever learned growing up. Almost every single road announcer discusses how bad his swing looks right now. He needs to be dropped to 8th in the lineup or sat against lefties, but Gonzalez is likely afraid of destroying Uggla's ego.

Can a hitter develop the equivalent of Steve Blass disease?

I'm not, Pavano has never been the kind of pitcher who lights up the K board. He relies on trickery to get it done but I am surprised they didn't let him go back out there for the 9th with such a big lead.

In a somewhat shocking move, Nationals manager Jim Reggleman resigned. The Nationals have been very hot recently and the team is one game over .500. Riggleman was upset that he was in the final year of his contract and the team hadn't picked up his 2012 option yet, and resigned when management wouldn't pick up his option.

I'm a little surprised the Nationals didn't just agree to pick up Riggleman's option. The team was playing great and if they keep it up they could be playoff contenders. Riggleman's option was only for $700,000 so if the team played poorly down the stretch or if they wanted a new manager they could have just fired Riggleman and paid the $700,000. Regardless, Riggleman's career is over. No team will ever hire him again after the way he quit.

Man the umpires for the last 2 Rangers games have sucked something awful. Yesterday they lose track of the count and instead of Cruz walking they call it ball 3 which turns into a strikeout. Now today they throw out a guy at second with 2 outs, the runner slides into the glove with ball and they call him safe, that turns into a 2-run single on the next pitch.

Breaking news, the Dodgers have filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. They are filing for bankruptcy in hopes of stopping MLB from seizing the team as the Dodgers won't be able to make payroll on Thursday.

From what I've read, if that bankruptcy is granted in the next few days then Frank McCrook has Chase lined up with a $150 million dollar loan to cover payroll. Can't wait to see what Selig does now. It's only going to get uglier.

No wonder out financial institutions need bailouts to survive. How the hell does someone like Frank McCourt get a $150 mill loan given his record of financial mismanagement, and probably outright theft? Good god these financial institutions are run by morons.

The loan (which is actually from JP Morgan Chase hedge fund Highbridge Capital Management) is completely safe. First off Highbridge has first claim on any Dodgers assets, which far exceed the loan's value. Second off MLB will never actually let the Dodgers go bankrupt. If the bankruptcy court allows the bankruptcy MLB will step in and say they will cover all the debts if they can take over the team, which the bankruptcy court should allow.

This case will hopefully end up being thrown out of bankruptcy court. The team is not bankrupt and makes plenty of money, it's their owner's mismanagement, as well as the fact that his family used the team as a piggy bank, that has caused the team's problems.
