Yeah, it was obviously an oblique to anyone who watched the game. They were saying to expect 15-20 games.

The injuries have been so prolific this year (what else is new?) that the Braves have started their Opening Day lineup only 11 times in 104 games this season. Just when Chipper returns from the DL, McCann heads out. I have no idea how the Braves have overcome all of this to post the 4th best record in the majors so far... major props to rookie Freddie Freeman and the pitching staff.

David Ross is no Brian McCann, but he's one of the very best backup catchers in the MLB, though.

Man the West race is getting a bit tighter, only 3 games up, the Giants are playing first place Phillies, than the Reds, both good teams in the playoff race, while the D-backs are playing bottom feeders the Padres & Dodgers...

Man your telling me, Giants have been on DL more than any team i think, Posey out for the season, Sanchez on the 60 day DL possibly out for the season, Sandoval out for 2 months, thats our top 3 hitters out for 60+ days ..

Also check this out.. Giants on DL list at some point in 2011

Torres
Sanchez
Posey
Burrell
Panda
Belt
Tejada
Ross
Wilson
Casilla
Fontenot
Derosa
Sanchez
Zito
Hall
Ford

Aubrey Huff is the only giant in the opening day lineup never to be on the DL at some point in the season. He is currently out due to injury and is day by day, I mean seriously, has there been any team that had every member of their opening day lineup to have a DL stint at some point in a season? (got this from some random poster on psd.com)

How were still in first place is beyond me

Know what's funny? Last night's game was probably the first important Pirates-Braves game since 1992. It'll be funny if Pittcburgh finishes the year 1 game back in the NL Central and the Braves win the Wild Card by 1 game.

Funny thing is I figured by now Felix would have been traded to the Yankees. I've heard little about him lately. Are the Mariners shopping him?

Their GM has publicly said they are not. I wouldn't expect the Yankees to deal with them after the shady way the M's handled the Cliff Lee trade.

Oh wow, ya.. I'd forgotten about the Cliff Lee debacle. The Mariners did seem to act in bad faith with that deal.

I forget the exact details. But the Yankees really appeared to have a done deal at one point. I think Seattle just took the Rangers deal at the last minute without bothering to call the Yankees. The Mariners just came off looking kinda bad the way it went down. I'm not even sure the Yankees knew Texas was seriously discussing a trade for Lee before the deal went down.

Though I do believe the Yankees were confident they could sign Lee in the offseason long-term. Of course that move blew up too when Philly swooped in at the last minute with a huge contract.

Brian McCann's backup David Ross has already gunned down two baserunners tonight. More like David BOSS.

The Pirates would have scored at least more run than they currently have if not for Ross tonight (1-0 game now to the bottom of the 6th, Jair Jurrjens having given up the one earned run). Great defensive play by Nate McClouth in CF to save a run, too... the Pirates could've easily scored 3 runs in the 6th.

Also, rookie Freddie Freeman continues to impress with his defensive abilities at first base. Big guy, he digs out the Braves infielders on bad throws all the freaking time. Seriously, give the rookie a Gold Glove.

The M's really wanted Justin Smoak but the Rangers didn't want to give him up. When the M's and Yankees had a agreement, they went to the Rangers and told them that they have a deal with the Yankees in place. So the Rangers gave them Smoak. So, the M's used the Yankees to get the player they really wanted. That's why I'm glad that all this bad stuff has happened to them.

Yeah but the Yankees offered the most money. I guess he really liked Philly during his brief time there in 09 for him to take less money.

Ya, I know the Yankees offered quite a bit more. I believe the deal Texas also offered Lee a new deal similar to what Philly gave him. That was one of the biggest free agency stunners I've ever seen. The entire process it was between Texas and the Yankees for signing Lee. I didn't even here the Phillies so much as mentioned until late in the evening the day before he signed with them.

Oh man, another heartbreaker for Pittsburgh losing in 10. That's 29 innings they've played in two nights and came out of it 0-2.

Backup catcher DAVID ROSS wins it!!!

Freedie Freeman went 3-5 tonight and Dan Uggla 3-4 with a walk.
Both of Freeman's singles were rockets, too.
