The MLB channel was hyping this as the most important Philly game ever, just because of the expectations from the starting staff.

That was an amazing pitching match-up and a great way to end a series.

Also one of the best divisional round playoffs ever. No sweeps, one 4-game series and THREE series not only went to a Game 5, they were all decided by one run.

I think Philly has Halladay, Oswalt, Lee and Hamels back next season. Though I think Hamels is a free agent after 2012. That team won't be going away anytime soon.

I do feel for Halladay. He toiled away in obscurity most of his career and didn't even play a playoff game until last year, something like his 13th season. Now he suffers two heartbreaking playoff exits in a row.

Crap, I deleted my post.

Didn't you have Philly winning in 3?

EDIT: Your predictions for Texas/Tigers and Cards/Brewers?

Ryan Howard made A-Rod's stats this postseason look good by comparison

2 for 19, struck out 6 times with a .105 Avg.

Yep, I said Philly in a 3 game sweep. I also predicted Philly to win the World Series, never losing more than 1 game in any series. Epic FAIL.

For the LCS I'll say Milwaukee in 7, Texas in 6. Both are crapshoots IMO.

Wonder how this playoff run will effect Pujols in the offseason. I'm thinking he's gone either way. He seems dead set on a massively long-term contract that St. Louis won't agree to and some other team likely will.

Ill say. Cardinals in 6. Tigers in 7. 2006 WS rematch.

I am not really sure. After Pujols having an off year. Cardinal Management may use that against him. It could cause them to offer him less.

I think they offered him a 8yr/190-195mill contract before this season. He declined it. I also heard he actually wants a 10yr/300 million contact. Of course these were just rumors.

I'm going to say the Brew Crew in 6 and the Tigers in 7. Brew Crew win their first Title in 7.

Great job Cardinals. Way to hold the Phillies scoreless in the final, deciding game. Now that my two most hated teams (Yanks and Phillies) are done, I can actually enjoy the rest of the playoffs. May the best team win.

What makes this best for me, as a Dallas area resident, is that the Rangers march on while Cliff Lee is going home.

No doubt the Phillies will do well in the future, but I feel almost as good about this as I did watching Lebron and the Heat lose in the NBA.

It's all relative. 2-19 is $25 million performance. $31 million dollars gets you a bit more. 2-18 and three more walks

It appears as if Ryan Howards injury could possibly be very serious. It'll be interesting to see the MRI results.

Quote:
It looks like Ryan Howard(notes) and the Philadelphia Phillies are embarking on his five-year, $125 million contract extension in the worst way imaginable.

Not only did the first baseman make the final out in the loss that booted the favored Phillies from the postseason on Friday, but he hurt himself badly while doing it. After grounding to second with two outs in the ninth, Howard fell to the ground as he left the batter's box. He was tended to by trainers as the St. Louis Cardinals celebrated the 1-0 triumph in NLDS Game 5 that lifted them into the next round.

Initial reports are saying that Howard hurt his left Achilles tendon and will undergo a MRI to survey the full extent of the damage. Howard left Citizens Bank Park on crutches. If it is fully torn, he could miss the entire 2012 season.

"It felt like my bat came around and hit the back of my Achilles," Howard told reporters after the game. "I tried to run and felt a pop and it felt like the whole thing was on fire. I tried to run, but felt like I was literally on a flat tire. I tried to get up, but I couldn't go."

This obviously doesn't look or sound good and it comes right as Phillies fans are suffering the disappointment of an early first-round exit. Howard started the series with a bang, hitting a big three-run homer in an 11-6 victory in Game 1. But he went 1-for-16 over the final four games, a mark that included an o-for-4 performance on Friday night.

Considering that it begins in his age 32 year, Howard's extension received a lot of criticism when it was signed in April 2010. He's done nothing to prove the doubters wrong either, as he has posted the lowest two OPS figures of his career the last two seasons.

But while decreased production might have been expected from an aging and big first baseman, the possibility of his complete absence for a whole year was not. The Phillies are already facing a lot of questions with several key players headed toward free agency (Jimmy Rollins(notes), Ryan Madson(notes), Raul Ibanez(notes)) and the future of others like Roy Oswalt(notes) remaining uncertain. Finding a replacement for a $25 million a year player is the last thing the Phillies want to deal with right now.

OUCH if his tendon is torn that sucks

Quote:
Ryan Howard believes he may have torn his left Achilles tendon while attempting to run out a ground ball on the final play of Friday's Game 5 loss to the Cardinals in the NLDS.
Howard suffered the injury as soon as he got out of the batter's box and was unable to run to first base. "I was trying to run, and I just felt this pop," said Howard. "The whole thing just went numb, like it was on fire. Just tried to keep going, and went down. It literally felt like I was on a flat tire. I tried to get up. Couldn't go." Howard is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday, but could miss part of the 2012 season if the injury requires surgery. Coincidentally, next season is the first year of his five-year, $125 million contract extension.
