I guess I'll be the lone voice to give props to the Reds. Who would have thought the Reds would be playing this well without Votto, and most recently Phillips? I know there is a lot of baseball to be played, but they are playing phenominal right now!! We have a big series coming up this weekend against Pittsburgh.

Raise your hand if you could ever picture someone saying these two statements say...two years ago?

Very true. I figured we have to fight with St. Louis or Milwaukee for the division title. The last time we had to battle with Pittsburgh like this was the 1990 NLCS.

Yeah...so true. The Reds haven't been a threat since the early 90s when Barry Larkin was running the show.

CJ Wilson has had 3 bad outings this year, and 2 of them have come against the Rangers.

Way to try and prove the Rangers wrong in letting you go.

The Rangers have been destroying every teams pitching. In fact I think CJ had the definite disadvantage going in anyways as the Ranger hitters, I'm sure, could read him like a book.

If memory serves me correct, the Rangers destroyed Jared Weaver a couple months back and issued him his 1st and only loss so far.

Guess run support was not included in Cole Hamels's fat new contract. The guy was solid again but the Phillies can't hit.

Lifelong Reds fan here and I will be at the stadium for 2 or the 3 games this weekend. I may have an extra pair of tix for Saturday too

Fair enough but the Knock on CJ has always been he folds when it matters. Bombing against the Rangers doesn't help that reputation.

@Buster_ESPN: Dempster has allowed as many ERs (7) tonight as his last 7 starts in NL. For future FA, Atlanta was probably better option.

The A’s traded veteran catcher Kurt Suzuki to the Nationals for another catcher, prospect David Freitas. The A’s are including cash in the deal to pay for part of Suzuki’s contract.

I honestly don't get this deal. The A's are in a wild card (and divisional) race, but then trade away their veteran catcher (the A's have a young pitching staff)? Unless they could go after a veteran catcher that has been place on waivers (Ramon Hernandez or Yorvit Torrealba, both of whom have been placed on waivers), having a young catcher trying to hold a young pitching staff while in a pennant race could be a risk.

I watched the 30 for 30 ESPN documentary "Catching Hell" about Steve Bartman on Netflix. Definitely one of their best. Unbelievable the level of hate that poor guy got. Even after all these years he's still basically in hiding and has never made a penny off his fame or done any interviews. It was Alex Gonzalez who cost the Cubs that game anyway with his colossal error just after the Bartman incident.

C.C. with a gem tonight. It would be nice if he came out and finished it in the ninth. He's only thrown 89 pitches through 8.

Edit: And he did. For everyone who says our pitching blows, I'll take C.C., Hughes, Kuroda, and hopefully a normal healthy Pettitte into the playoffs. Hughes has pitched very nicely in his past couple of starts. He's had 6 quality starts out of his last 7 games pitched. Not too bad.

Enjoy the game(s)!! We just got back from our vacation in Treasure Island, FL. We watched the first game on MLBTV via my iPhone @ Chicago/O'hare Airport. Unless we can find four tickets together for Saturday's game, we will be watching at home on something bigger than an iPhone screen!!

BTW, did you watch Marty getting his head shaved? Glad to see so many fans/corporations donate to raise the money that they did!!

Sanchez looked terrible from the 1st inning on! Giants score 16 runs a season high! To beat the rock.

Last night at the park was fantastic. Latos looked great on the mound and that homer he hit was a laser.

The post game stuff with Marty was fun as well. I had tears running down my face when he introduced the kids from the dragonfly foundation who he invited to be there. The fact that they raised 50k in 3 days for Reds Community Fund was outstanding too. They did a video package of his top 7 calls of all time, since it was his 70th birthday. That was a fun stroll down memory lane.

The game ended up selling out too

Ill keep you in mind if we ever have a 4 pack not getting used, we have a weekend ticket package.

The Dodgers acquired Phillies pitcher Joe Blanton from the Phillies in a waiver trade. Blanton is due about $3 million for the remainder of the season.

The Dodgers also made a waiver claim for Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee. The teams now have 48 hours to agree to a trade or the Phillies can let the Dodgers have him for nothing or pull him back off waivers. Lee is guaranteed $82 million through 2015 and has a $27.5 million performance option in 2016 but the Phillies are still going to want a lot for Lee and a trade isn't expected to happen because the Dodgers lack premium prospects. Lee also can veto a trade to 21 teams so if the Dodgers are one of the 21 teams Lee would have to approve a trade.

Felix Hernandez sure can dominate when he wants to. 9 inning shutout at Yankee Stadium, 2 hits, 2 walks, 101 pitches against one of the best lineups in the game. Talk about efficient.

I can't really be too upset. If it was a bum who did that, you better believe I'll be pissed off.

Thx. What can I say about game 2 tonight? If you were there tonight, I'm sure is was electric down there at GABP. Even with the mistakes they made tonight, the Reds never gave up and played tough all game. 22-3 in their last 25 games!! Unbelieveable!!
