The New York press (specifically the Post and Daily News) had no prouble getting into A Rod's personal life when he was having affairs and was supposedly dating Madonna. They were putting rumors about him on the front page practically every day.

MLB confirmed that Melky Cabrera is still eligible for the batting title despite his suspension. Per the link:

Quote:
Cabrera will effectively end his season with 501 plate appearances, leaving the ALL-Star game MVP one at bat shy of the necessary 502 to be considered. Luckily MLB will give him a fake at bat, receiving a theoretical 0-for-1, pushing his batting average to .34562
Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates currently leads the NL with a .358 batting average, but he will have a lot of unfamiliar pressure on him as the Pirates are currently tied with the Cardinals for the second wild card. Matt Kemp also has a higher average than Cabrera at .356, but it's unlikely that he'll have enough at-bats to qualify for the batting title.

Why would the MLB do anything for a known cheater, seems pretty stupid that he would even be considered, he should also be stripped of his NL all star mpv award

Because they've never erased records based off suspensions?

A-Rod was sunbathing in Central Park, dated one of the most well known singers in the world, got caught on national TV smooching with Cameron Diaz at a Super Bowl (suposedly yelling at the media for taping him) and posed in some really over the top photo shoots. The guy throws way too much red meat at the media for them to ignore him off the field.

The whole "winning league of the All-Star game gets home field in the WS is stupid. The All-star mid week (since it's not on a weekend and MLB should look into doing that) is a celebration of the game for the fans and the game itself is a exhibition. That whole thing makes having the best record in MLB meaningless. In the NBA and NHL, the team with the best record in the league gets home court/ice throughout the playoffs.

I read on espn some writer said that 50% of the players in MLB are using drug... LOL The reason why they don't have strict policy because half of the players would be ban hahaha.

I want all the top players in MLB to be tested after every game for 1 month and see their stats.

The guy that said it wasn't a writer; it was Victor Conte, the guy who ran BALCO. His "evidence" is complete crap, and he's just trying to stay relevant. He claims that a number of big stars have told him half of the league is juiced, but none of the stars in the league today would be caught dead anywhere near Conte.

Agreed. Other than Manny, all the people that have been caught are basicallly lesser players and no-names (Braun beat the rap due to screw up on procedure).

Braves need to do Chipper Jones bobblehead nights more often. 2-3 with 2 HRs thus far. Hits number 2699 and 2700.

CG shutout for Kris Medlan! 4th Braves pitcher to do it this year, most since they had 6 (SIX!) do it in 1998.

Also the 3rd pitcher this year to throw a CG and get a save (obviously in separate games...).

Weren't you the one guy around here arguing in favor of it in the past? What's the solution if not best record, going back to rotating each year between leagues? I'd still prefer best record to All-Star games or rotating World Series. Though the rotating WS is still far better than All-Star game determining it.

On the radio today one of my local sports shows mentioned the Chicago Cubs are paying $49 million in salary this season alone to managers, players and executives no longer with the team. That's more than enough money to sign two aces with what they're spending on people no longer part of the organization.

Not sure if that's more than nay other team in MLB. I know the Dodgers are still paying a lot of money to Andruw Jones, Manny Ramirez and others.

Bobby Bonilla is going to get paid every year by the Mets until 2035. It's like annual lottery winner payments.

Quote:
The New York Mets placed Bonilla on unconditional waivers in 2000. He spent the 2000 season playing for the Atlanta Braves. The Mets agreed to pay out the remainder of Bonilla's contract by deferring the $5.9 million that he was due. The Mets will pay him 25 equal payments of $1,193,248.20 every July 1 from 2011 until 2035, assuming an annual interest rate of 8% during the period 2011–2035.
