C'mon Super.....please get off the Glue dude. It was a terrible call and the Cards will give your Nats all they can handle. These guys have been through this before and it wouldn't surprise me if they move on to the NLCS.

Now MLB is pulling a NFL "crisis control".... not only did they deny the protest, they are saying the call was correct.

MLB can't be serious.

Even if it's theoretically the correct call, the rulebook states it has to be called early. It wasn't. Therefore it's a bad/wrong call.

I'm curious here. If a protest of a call that obvious is denied what constitutes a valid protest? Does the umpire have to get caught betting on the game? Taking a bribe to make the call?

They are claiming it's a judgement call, and you can't protest judgement. You can only protest misapplication of the rules (which I would argue this was). George Brett won because of an "intent" issue; the rule was created for an economic reason (scoffing balls) and not an advantage to the hitter, so the rule should have been ignored.

Protests are allowed for incorrect application of the rules. But not for "judgment" calls.

So you can protest a walk issued with only 3 balls(silly example of an incorrect application of the rules).

*EDIT* In the current game, I'd bet the Rangers don't score another run.

The umpire must rule also that a ball is an infield fly, even if handled by an outfielder, if, in the umpire’s judgment, the ball could have been as easily handled by an infielder. The infield fly is in no sense to be considered an appeal play. The umpire’s judgment must govern, and the decision should be made immediately.
When an infield fly rule is called, runners may advance at their own risk. If on an infield fly rule, the infielder intentionally drops a fair ball, the ball remains in play despite the provisions of Rule 6.05 (L). The infield fly rule takes precedence.

Interestingly, this SHOULD be an "intent" issue as well. There was zero chance of this being what the infield fly rule is trying to prevent.

I was just looking at the schedule and was surprised Game 1 of the LDS is Washington @ St. Louis. Then I realized they changed the format this season from 2-2-1 to 2-3. Another really stupid move IMO. Homefield advantage shouldn't mean playing the first two games on the road.

I have a funny feeling Detroit beats Oakland in that LDS matchup.

This . It was a tough fight that came down to the very last day to win our division, and if BAL wins tonight, we have to go to Camden. Ridiculous. Is it unrealistic for the O's to go to NY?

They get 2 at home, then you get 3 in the Bronx. Being a Jays fan I have to say ...GO Black & Orange. GG....I'm tired of the Yanks & last place Sox (AWESOME) always being in the post season.
