This is weird. It appears the Yankees badly botched ticket sales for Game 2. They almost have to win today to remain in the series as Verlander is going Game 3 in Detroit.

The New York Yankees still had tickets available and several thousand more were for sale on the secondary market Sunday morning for Game 2 of the AL Championship Series later in the day.

It was a development the team said doesn't accurately reflect the market, while one ticket broker attributed it to high prices and the postseason's revamped schedule.

Yankees fans woke Sunday to emails telling them the team was still selling tickets to the game.

"Tickets are available for today's game," read the Yankees' email, next to a picture of the team's unlikely hero Raul Ibanez, who has hit three postseason home runs.

On StubHub, meanwhile, fans and brokers who already had purchased seats were selling thousands more for the game to be played later in the afternoon.

A fan that clicked the "Buy Tickets" button on Ticketmaster could see blocks of seats -- as many as 19 in a row -- available for purchase.

From 8 a.m. ET to 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, approximately 500 tickets to the game were sold on StubHub, but that still left 6,800 tickets on the resale market.

"It's difficult to make money on the Yankees playoff games," said Jason Nissen, president and CEO of National Event Company, a ticket brokerage based in New York City. "I think a lot of people were spoiled with what happened from 1996 through 2004. Not only were the prices lower, but they were playing the Red Sox all the time."

StubHub spokesperson Joellen Ferrer declined to comment.

It was embarrassing to baseball how empty the stadium was for the extra innings last night. The Yankees have wildly overpriced their tickets and refuse to correct it for actual market demand.

Ticket price average is $131 for Yankees home game in the LDS. I guess that's especially high for most people on a Sunday game where more people would rather watch the NFL games from home.

I want the Tigers to win this series but that was Horsesh*t. Motowners get at least 1 because of the call.

GG & Wing.....Swisher stinks. Put a 28" orange traffic cone out there and you'll get the same result.

The Yanks better hope they pull this off or they're getting "Heavy, Hard Cheese", from the best pitcher in the Majors for Game 3. Being down 2-zip in Comerica's hostile "Auto Worker's House" does NOT bode well.

Honestly man I've checked out of this series. I don't even want to watch it anymore. I can't stand watching this anemic inept offense. It's just sad considering the performances Andy and Hiroki gave.

Edit: Cano, Granderson, and Swisher want raises and extensions and they can all go to hell. Obviously you have to resign Cano to an extension, but the other two can GTFO.

A-Rod has become such a joke. It's really embarrassing for a guy with so munch talent looking like he's going to cry after yet another strikeout. The guy just has no heart. Sucks this fool is probably going to be the all-time HR king one day.

I'm with you on Swisher but why Granderson? His batting avg might be mediocre but he's a terrific hitter, this postseason notwithstanding.
