So does this mean we have to deal with another season of every city giving another Yankee player ridiculous "farewell gifts"?

Ya, I agree but try telling that to a lot of fans. To them he's the greatest of all-time rather than a mere HOF'er and the most overrated fielder in MLB history. Get ready for a season full of unnecessary hero worship.

Yes, these farewell tours have become more and more common. I really remember it starting with the final seasons for Tony Gywnn and Cal Ripken.

I knew DJ would hang it up after this year, but I would figure he would announce it after the season (especially if he had a DJ season like he had in 2012). Very surprised he announced this now instead of after the season. A great era of Yankee baseball will come to a end.

How can you fully place someone on a list, its all going to be opinion

But I can think of Honus Wagner, Ernie Banks, Ozzie Smith, Joe Cronin, Arky Vaughn,Luke Appling, Robin Yount, Bill Dahlen and Cal Ripken Jr off the top of my head and that's honestly good company to be in. But now were talking different eras, Jeter yes probably the best shortstop of our Era, but in my opinion guys a stuck up cock, wouldn't hold a candle to Cal, or even Trammell but the last one would be my hometown bias.

If we go by World Series wins yeah hes up there for sure, but if we take everything into account hes def top 10, very good bet hes top 5 maybe even top 3.

I guess this means it's the last time we hear Bob Sheppard's voice over the Yankees PA system during a ballgame.

I'm wondering who's going to be DJ's successor as Yankee captain? I believe it would have bee Cano (had he resigned), but I would guess it'll be David Robertson (since he's been there the longest). Or, they won't have a captain for some years (like what happened when Mattingly retired in 95 and there wasn't a captain until 03).

Well I don't usually go to Yankees games anymore, but I want to try and go this year. It would be great to see Jeter play one last time. I have pretty much seen this guy's entire career.

There won't be a captain. Cano would have been named if he had stuck around.

I have a vacation set up in July. I'm finally going to go to the new Stadium. I'm currently eyeing that Thursday July 24th game against the Rangers, which is a 1 PM day game. If not that game, then the 26th against the Blue Jays. I want to go to a Tanaka game, so hopefully he starts one of those games.

At Shortstop I'd go with.

1. Honus Wagner
2. Cal Ripken Jr.
3. Ernie Banks (Isn't his fault he played on crap teams)
4. Alex Rodriguez (Yes, he's played more games at SS than 3B in his career, won seven Silver Sluggers at SS and had the best WAR in the AL four times at SS. Jeter only had the best WAR at his position one season in his career.)
5. Derek Jeter
