Every single time these corporate handouts happen the revenues from these publicly funded stadiums NEVER meet expectations. The taxpayers always get royally hosed. Just look at the Miami Marlins or Minnesota Vikings for prime examples.

There is opposition but there are LOTS of Braves fans in Cobb County and they love the idea of not having to go to the ghetto to see a game.

So the solution is move it out in the middle of nowhere? I know it's a crappy part of town but so are a lot of ballparks that do just fine. Most MLB ballparks are in very bad urban neighborhoods.

Yankee Stadium

If they want tax payers dollars, then they should put it on a voting ballot and let the people decide. That's just me.

That's the solution I'd go with. Looking at how the Cobb county commission handled this whole thing leaves the impression that they were afraid to go that route, instead jamming the deal through a commission vote with minimal input from residents/taxpayers.

Check out this poll. As of late 2013 a majority of residents did oppose funding this deal.

Cobb County is definitely not the middle of nowhere. They're building this about 2 blocks from the performing arts center that The Walking Dead used as the CDC

It looked like it was in the middle of nowhere from the design drawings.

That's because they wanted to show how "close" it was to Atlanta.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Co...da1491eee71639

It's going in the land just north of 285 and just west of 75. It'll be less than 5 miles away from my high school

It's the southeast corner of the 3rd most populated and 2nd most densely populated county in the state.

Dang, Reyes threw away the Jays win streak. Losses like that are why I still have no faith in the Jays.

I don't understand why more teams haven't gone to privately funded stadiums like the Giants. Even the richest franchise in baseball asked for taxpayer handouts...Yankees. The Giants have had a very successful model, and with exception to the very few, 10 or fewer poorest franchises, I don't see how it couldn't work for most franchises that needed new stadiums over the past decade.

I remember the turmoil in the '80s-90's over taxpayer funded stadium for them. Liberal part of the state can be frugal too. I can't remember how many votes maybe 8 over a span of a decade and a half. Hell the Giants almost ended up in Tampa. Hell, the City/county wouldn't even give the 49ers a new stadium and they moved 45 miles south to Santa Carla.

Why would a team go privately funded if politicians are giving out money?

But that's why the Braves are moving. City of Atlanta wouldn't give them money to fix Turner, so they got Cobb County to give them money for a stadium.
