Exactly. It makes zero sense to privately fund all of their costs when they are receiving hundreds of millions of dollars.

It only makes sense to privately fund an arena if you can't get public money and moving isn't a truly viable option. Right now the Cubs are preparing for a $500 million overhaul of Wrigley that will be completely privately-funded because the city of Chicago is pretty much broke and wouldn't give them anything. They could move to Rosemont, which is offering all kinds of incentives, but they'd rather stay in their current location even if that means paying for the upgrades themselves. They still could threaten to move to get Chicago to approve the renovations they want to make or if they can't get a deal done with the rooftop owners, but moving would be a last resort.

But that's why the Braves are moving. City of Atlanta wouldn't give them money to fix Turner, so they got Cobb County to give them money for a stadium.
I get that your politicians are handing out money. You can't tell me it wouldn't be cheaper to update a only 18 year old stadium, then build a new one. Maybe if the Braves had more control over how funds are spent/controlled, when you own your own stadium there might not be a problem. The Giants only have a tax bill they pay to the county/city. No lease or any of the other BS that comes with publicly funded initiatives. What you pay at the stadium for food, vendors, merchandise, all the money stays there. Ticket prices are reasonable too. Why else are they in the top ten in payroll? Because they don't have the bills like the other twenty to twenty five teams below them.

I see the Braves new stadium is in what is the heart of Braves country in Atlanta. Where as Turner is not. Once the luster of a new stadium wears off and the fair weather fans stop going, 20,000 diehards in attendance and same ole money probs twenty years from now. I hope I am wrong. I've met some great Braves fans in my travels, but even they admit college football is the sport of choice, and were embarrassed at some of the attendance numbers of playoff games during the main 15 year run of Cox and Company.

The current stadium is in the middle of nowhere. There's nothing in that area except for the Braves stadium and run-down homes. Granted, it's a bit better off now than it was in Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, but only because the government spent money to clear out the drug houses across the street from the stadium when the Olympics were coming to town.

The new stadium is planning to have an entire entertainment district, owned by the Braves, that will draw in income year round and give people things to do around the stadium. Heck, there's a mall right across the street from the new site. Get to the area around 1 pm for a night game, and you can go to the mall, a movie, dinner and then catch the game.

Love that my Astros are fun to watch again.

George Springer is on a roll. 7 homeruns in 7 games.

That area of the South BX is not bad like people make it out to be now (back in the 80's and 90's is a different story)

My family has lived in the Bronx since the start of the previous century, so I'm pretty familiar with the history of the area. It has improved and it's not like it's Jerome Ave, but it's still in a section of the Bronx that I wouldn't want to live. I've taken the 4 train to 125th and then the 6th train up to YS so many times I know it like the back of my hand.

It's not too bad. You just have to look at the Subway maps. You can do it

Where are you staying? I'm going next month and I'm staying in the Bronx with family. Got tickets for the Rangers day game in the Jim Beam suite . Can't wait to go.

Nah, the NYCMTA is one of the most simplest transit systems out there. It can get confusing is when work is done of multiple lines at the same time on a weekend.

Not as bad as my Bums, 4-12 in the last 16 games the Tigers are just epic fail there.

The New Yorker. Right next to Madison Square Garden. I'm going to the next to last home game of the year. It's a day game against the Orioles I believe. Sitting up in the upper deck (against the wall in the lower section of the upper deck) in right field.
