It was a pretty sloppy game in the defensive end and another example that out offense is very suspect and why I've been saying that this team needs to play small ball more often to manufacture runs.

But is your team built for small ball? Hate to break it to you but I seriously doubt it. You don't have 1 person over 30 SB all season, and 1 person being Ellsbury at 27 over 20, your next closest is Gardner at 16 SB, your best hitter is Ellsbury at .291 and your Best RBI guy in Teixeira only has 48 RBI, really your best RBI guy right now is on pace for 80 RBI in a season? Gardner is a base stealing threat. He just isn't aggressive like he used to be. This team is capable of playing small ball to manufacture runs. Joe has done it on occasion this season (but doesn't do it enough).

Because if you do it all the time in the ALE with the DH you will get burned your team is not built as a small ball team. Your team is built to rely on the long ball because of how easy balls seem to fly out of that new ballpark. A good small ball / base stealing threat of a team is going to have 3-5 base stealing threats along with multiple people capable of laying bunts and sacrifices down. Your team is built to move a man with the fly ball not the bunt. Power pitching and Power hitting is your teams philosophy. That's how you are built to manufacture your runs.

I'm not really all that excited with this trade. Headley has been attached to the Yankees since last year. I hope this turns into another Scott Brocious situation (his numbers were not all that when he was with the A's but put up some pretty good numbers with us).

I havent been watching a ton of baseball yet but Solarte seemed like a good young player when i saw him...Cashman is just making moves to shake things up.. something needs to be done...

Headley had 2-3 opportunities to be the hero and finally got it done in the end....he was what, 0-3 or 0-4 before that hit....

I know that. So large came back down to earth and wasn't going to get much playing time (if any). So the trade is good for him since he'll get more playing time with the Padres. It's a low risk move (Headley basically a rental because his contract is done after this year). We basically gave up nothing for him.

San Diego Padres OF Cameron Maybin suspended 25 games by violating MLB drug policy.

from NBCSports.com:

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that San Diego Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin has received a 25-game suspension without pay after testing positive for an Amphetamine in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Maybin is effective immediately.

Maybin is hitting .247/.286/.368 in 62 games. Which made him the third best hitter on the team as far as OPS+ goes.
