File this under the "what are they doing now" category. Mike Mussina took a job as head coach of the high school basketball team at the school he attended as a kid.

I never understood why he retired when he did. He was just 39 years old and won 20 games with a 3.37 ERA in his final season. If he'd played 2 more seasons he likely would have had 300 wins. And he retired without winning a ring. The Yankees won the World Series the 3 years prior to him joining and the year after he retired. Missing out on 300 wins and a championship may end up costing him a spot in the HOF.

Before tonight’s game begins, however, LeGrande and his parents, Mike and Shari LeGrande, will be taken to a mini-baseball stadium, specially constructed by Google at its Kansas City offices. Nick’s friends, doctors and former teammates will all be in attendance, too.

The telerobotic pitching machine, meanwhile, will sit atop the pitcher’s mound in Oakland. The machine will follow Nick’s movements as he winds up and throws, allowing him to throw the pitch remotely and to see it happen at O.co Coliseum.

A’s All-Star reliever Ryan Cook, who helped connect Google and the LeGrande family, will catch Nick’s first pitch.

Just went back and watched the 7th to see why Greinke got targeted, and it's because he hit Montero on his third (maybe fourth; the third pitch was terribly off target, but away from the hitter) try. If you can't hit the guy the first time, move on. Or expect to get hit when you come up.

A few mind-boggling statistics:

Statistical weirdness: Of the 240 major league hitters w/ 150 or more PAs, #Braves Uggla is the only one w/ fewer than 3 doubles. Has 2.

If Miguel Cabrera played no home games this season, he'd still have great numbers: .369/450/.700 w/ 12 HRs, 40 RBI -- just on the road!

We've had Jerry Hairston Jr batting cleanup several times. Jerry freaking Hairston Jr!!! Of course only an idiot manager would do that. Would love to ship him back to NY.
