Yeah!

Although if this thing goes to Game 7, they'd have to use CC, and that won't set him up well for the WS.
Another positive is that's its always fun to win on your home turf with your fans.

That's true. Hopefully they jump out to an early lead so the game isn't as stressful as today's game.

Talk about some intensity there! Damn! I agree.... it was his game... i would have left him in. And he also had a right to be upset with the call on the ball. Looked a little too close to take to me but what do I know :P

The Dodgers have fired their CEO. What makes this interesting is that the CEO is Jamie McCourt, the estranged wife of owner Frank McCourt. Jamie McCourt is also a co-owner of the team. This divorce should get very interesting. The McCourts borrowed a lot of money to buy the team and it's questionable if either McCourt can afford to own the team. This could turn out like the Padres situation, where the team stopped spending money while the owner got a divorce.

Well no doubt that it is good for the Phillies to watch these guys battle to the 7th game, congrats to any Angel fans, that was some game.
I thought just Cholly made dumb decisions with his pitching staff, now I see it happens in the AL too, lol.

There's a very good chance the Yankee game is rained out tonight. Forecast calls for severe thunderstorms. That's a huge break for the Yankees. It gives their starters another day of rest, which is huge since they are going with a 3 man rotation. It also gives C.C. another day of rest if he has to pitch game 7, which would be his 3rd start of the series.

Yeah, it was pouring here this morning, but it let up for a little while (though I'm a couple hours NW of NYC).

The day off wouldn't really be too significant, at least not to the starters, because of the day off between games 4 and 5, which means Pettitte would be pitching on full-rest today, and the same for Sabathia tomorrow.

The bullpen get an extra day of rest, but the way Girardi uses his relievers (in for one out, then taken out of the game) they probably don't need more than 30 minutes to recover.

Talk about Girardi, he is the only thing I like about the Yankees. The way he was ousted from the Marlins by that dumb ass owner of ours was a damn shame. He is a hell of a coach. I guess our loss has become your gain so to speak.

BTW, I'm sure both teams could you a day off in the middle of a grueling playoff schedule. Especially the Yanks, since the Phillies are already waiting for them in the WS.

Haha, I was rooting for him when he was with the Marlins. Pretty embarrassing move to get rid of him. What was their excuse, something like "he was winning too much"?

I don't live in Florida, so I don't follow the local politics, but from what I read it sounded like the Marlins wanted a new stadium, but the city wouldn't pay for it. So they figured they'd lose enough games so that people would become disinterested in the team, and nobody would go to the games, and then MLB would consider relocating them, hopefully to a city that would buy a new stadium and make the owners more money.

When the Yankees were deciding between Mattingly and Girardi, I was initially hoping Mattingly would get the job. But thinking back on it, I think Girardi was the better, if less popular, choice.

That whole talk of contraction by MLB was about 8-9 years ago when Henry still owned the team. That topic has become irrelevant now because the team broke ground on their new stadium a few months back which the city of Hialeah is helping to finance. It should be completed by the 2012 season. It will be a 38000 seat, retractable roof stadium, perfect for this crazy Florida weather. No more postponements due to rain. Yay!

As far as Girardi is concerned, he was fired by Loria because he told the owner at one of their road games to sop haggling the umpire for a bad call. Loria was thinking about firing Girardi right after the game but changed his mind. They should have come to some sort of consensus about this incident, but I guess they just rubbed each other the wrong way, so you know who WASN'T going to lose that argument. Still, Girardi was responsible for turning the fortunes of the team around in just one season, with a team that had a payroll of $14 million. Now that is impressive. MLB thought so too, so they gave him the NL coach of the year award that year, which was well deserved IMO.

Oh, I wasn't talking about contraction. I think the Expos were the team at risk of disappearing, and maybe the Brewers, but not the Marlins.

I thought I heard the Marlins wanted to move to Charlotte, but then Charlotte said they couldn't afford to build a stadium (since they just built a new arena for the Bobcats, and some other crap).

He definitely deserved the Manager of the Year award, because he won a crapload of games with a team that was clearly not intended to win (it was apparent the owners weren't even trying to assemble a real team with just $14 million).

But the relocation had to do with the contraction, so that's why I mentioned it. The two teams that were on the verge of being contracted were the Marlins and and Expos. The Expos did end up being, so they were eventually moved to Washington. The Marlins then struggled to find a solution for a new stadium for the next 8 years or so, until this year. None of the cities that were interested in getting the Marlins wanted to use tax payer money to finance the stadium. Plus Loria being the cheap bastard that he is didn't want to put much of his own money on the line for it. In the end we got lucky with the new deal, thanks in large part to governor Crist's power of persuasion as well.
In all honesty, the Marlins could not have continued to be viable as a franchise once the current contract expires with the Dolphin/Land Shark Stadium, because for years they've been bled dry on all concession profits, lack of luxury boxes and super high rent that they've been having to pay. So this new stadium deal couldn't have come at a better time. The only change that'll occur in about 3 years or so is that they'll be called the Miami Marlins instead of the Florida Marlins. Small price to pay for stability.

Oh, gotcha'.

~~~~
At this point it looks like the game is a go for tonight. If they were going to call it, they'd call it by this point before people starting trekking over to the stadium.
Worst case scenario is the game starts and gets postponed for rain, but they're at least going to try to get the 9 innings (or more) in tonight.
