If Bobby Valentine was the coach trying to stop him like Farrell did after he destroyed the phone, Papi probably would have knocked him out and continued back onto the field towards the umpire.

Sweep! Against the best record in baseball! Held the top offense to 3 runs in the series!

And only 7 more against teams over 500 (3 vs Indians, 4 at Cardinals - I'll be at 2 of those).

yeah, yeah i guess we deserved to get swept. especially, considering that we eliminated the braves from the playoffs the the last 2 seasons.

I just noticed that only two starting pitchers in the entire league are averaging more than seven innings a start. What's up with that?

Brad Lidge is signing a one day contract to retire a Phillie. This is getting ridiculous. Now average players are doing this nonsense. Didn't that guy play more years in Houston than Philly anyway?

Lidge did play longer in Houston than Philly, but he had the most success in Philly and he was the closer who clinched their World Series title. Still, I agree with your point. Lidge had an above-average career with a couple of good seasons, but nothing worthy of any sort of ceremony when he retired. In addition it's not like Lidge just decided to retire. He told his agents during the offseason that he was retired and not to look for a team to sign him.

Braves just made a great trade. Traded a minor leaguer (Cory Rasmus, Colby's brother) who struggled in a few games in the major to the Angels for Scott Downs. He's a veteran, a lefty and has a sub-2 ERA. That gives the Braves 2 sub-2 lefties to go with their strong set of righties as well.

Johnson was also a freak of nature. He also had lots of 3-pitch strikeouts. Pitchers today throw 4-5 pitches per strikeout (based off data from 07-09).

Pitch counts are way down yet Tommy John surgery frequency has soared. Coddling pitchers seems to be just as bad as overworking them.
