I miss Harold Reynolds. I think he got fired for sexual harassment or something. But now he's over on the MLB Network, so maybe Phillips can get a job there.

Yep, Reynolds got fired for sexual harassment. He said it was a misunderstanding over a hug he gave to a woman. He ended up suing ESPN for wrongful termination and getting a 7 figure settlement.

I think Phillips is going to struggle to get a new job as this is the second time he's had an affair with a co-worker. When he was with the Mets he settled a sexual harassment lawsuit and there's a decent chance he (or ESPN) will get sued over this affair.

Wow. I wonder how much they were paying him, or if the 7-figure settlement was more related to the wrongfulness of the termination rather than compensation for his lost pay or something.

There are so many analysts on ESPN now that I imagine they all can't be making a ton of money. Though the main anchors on SC certainly get paid well.

I would assume Reynolds settlement was more for breach of contract and lost wages than for any actual wrongdoing by ESPN in firing him. I would assume ESPN put a clause in Phillips contract that if he was fired for sexual harassment or for having sex with an employee that he could be fired and not be eligible to collect the balance of his contract since he'd done it before.

Here's a link with estimates of what some sportswriters and ESPN employees make. Not a huge surprise that Wilbon would be among the highest paid since he's been on PTI since it's inception and does ESPN's basketball studio show.

Most of those salaries at the link above look wildly inflated. The newspaper business is dying, and writers simply are not making that much money anymore unless they are a top author with a book deal.

ESPN's baseball coverage has gone from bad to worse over the past couple of years. They now have virtually no one left that is a credible analyst. MLB Network is outstanding in comparison.

But wouldn't the newspaper want to hold onto the last appeal they might have, which would be their celebrity-ish reporters?

Regardless of the economy or the newspaper situation, I wonder how realistic the salaries are to begin with. I'm sure networks like CBS and FOX have the money to throw around, but do any of these guys really add that sort of value to the show? I'd watch football games on FOX with or without Terry Bradshaw. Same goes for all the other guys on the other networks. I watch football for the games, not to see some retired players joke around and offer useless bantering and commentary.

Although it's getting off-topic (since this is a baseball forum) I was recently reading about how FOX did a lot of damage years ago, when they paid an outrageous price to get the NFL away from CBS. For all the crap Leno gets about ruining network TV, nobody is blaming FOX for causing the ridiculous licensing fees all these networks are paying for sports now.

Anyhow, that's my rant. Two more days until the Fall Classic. Seems like it's going to take forever to get here, but Lee vs Sabathia in Game 1 is a helluva way to start it off.

Since Hi-Def Steve knows how I feel about corporate sponsors...

I had ESPN on in the background while working, and they had some guest on that I don't remember the name of. He was some young MLB player, and was there to talk about the World Series.

But at the end of his little segment, the host mentioned that Taco Bell brought him to the show. So he did a quick pitch for Taco Bell.

If athletes were smart they'd do pitches for fast food places and as payment they get a card they get free food for life lol, that way if they blow their money they always have a free meal

Indians fans gotta love that one. I'll always wonder how different the Indians would be now if they had not blown the 3-1 series lead to the Red Sox in 2007.

They shouldn't have blown that series, because they shouldn't have been in it to begin with.

Stupid midges.

I bet this guy snuck them into the stadium:

Girardi said not to assume he's using a 3-man rotation again. If the series go to 7 games, I assume he wants to have CC for that. So it seems as though either Pettitte or Burnett will only be getting one start.

If Burnett gets two starts, I wonder what will happen if he starts one of the games in Philadelphia (3, 4, 5). After losing the DH for those games, I doubt the Yankees want to sacrifice another bat in their lineup, so they may force Burnett to work with Posada, since Molina can't hit at all.

He also hinted that Hinske will be on the roster, meaning someone else has to go, and the most likely candidate is Guzman.

There's no point having 3 catchers on the team, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets rid of Cervelli, and makes room for another pitcher (since there were a few games where he was down to 1 pitcher in the bullpen).

That sounds hilarious! Well...I gotta say I'd rather see tons of Taco Bell commercials, pitches, etc. as opposed to these erectile dysfunction commercials they play every other commercial. I swear I want to punch that guy who's talking to himself in the glass building. "I don't know....oooOK"

I picked up my World Series hat today. She is nice I was impressed that it still had the inaugural season logo on the back...I thought it would just be the regular MLB logo. I was planning on getting an inaugural season hat but now it's even better since I have the WS edition on-field cap..I've been collecting the hats since the '96 series...6 years since I've bought a Yankees World Series hat..I'd like to buy one every year.

Ran me about $36 bucks. The person @ the counter said they were almost sold out and they went through 3 boxes already this morning.

Paul Beeston named President of the Toronto Blue Jays...

http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=296279

What's old is new again... Paul was there for the 1992 and 1993 World Series Victories when he was pres and Pat Gillick was the GM. He went on to work for MLB in 1997 in the Commisioner's office before leaving that post in 2002.

Good new for Jays fans and baseball in Toronto/rest of Canada.
