It's pretty embarrassing for the Yankees to allow someone to throw a CG against them. Cliff Lee is insane, but still, you can't let that happen. Oh well.

He made A-Rod & Posada look foolish in those two final outs to boot.

Yeah, I assume they were swinging for the fences, and consequently swung at garbage.

Looks like the Yankees will have to take 2 of 3 in Philly, and obviously go out and pick up the win tomorrow. With Pedro pitching it should at least be entertaining.

What genius at FOX made the bright idea of making Ozzie Guillen a commentator.

Great game.

This is gonne be a good series, the Phils are stacked so no more steam rolling teams full of holes. Their starting pitching is tight and there is no skipping anyone in the lineup. Then you have guys like Matt Stairs on the bench(Woohoo New Brunswick Canada plug haha) who can pound the ball.

See if AJ earns his contract tonight

Atleast his Sox are out of it so he has no reason to cuss every other word... Still a poor decision...

pretty entertaining game last night as a neutral. i do agree its embarassing to let a pitcher CG you in the world series and very embarassing that its the yankees.

also noticed how the broadcast looked great in high def while the NFL on Fox looks like horse manure every week. what gives?

Cliff Lee has at times been the best pitcher in MLB over the last two years. Anyone that thought the Phillies would roll over and die for the Yankees was sadly mistaken. Taking into account all aspects of the game and adjusting for position, Chase Utley has been as valuable as almost any player in the game over the past few years, on par with Albert Pujols.

I could see this series getting out of hand for the Yankees if Pedro steps up and pitches like he was 28. The Yankees have yet to really face any adversity this year. It will be interesting to see how they respond.

Some cool stats Chase Utley became the first left hand batter to jack two Homeruns off of a left hand pitcher in a World Series since The Babe did it way back when, pretty good company to be in right there.
Cliff Lee had a ten strikeout no walk performance, the first time in a World Series since 1903 and that was the very first World Series: Pittsburgh Pirates against Boston Americans Deacon Phillipe was the Pirate pitcher that had the Ten strikeouts and zero walks, and now Cliff Lee.

Whoa, let's not anoint the Phillies World Champs yet. They won 1 game with their ace, and took advantage of the Yankees bullpen. They haven't exactly faced any adversity along their path to the World Series either.

They're built like an AL team but play in the NL, so of course they'd match up well.

And for a reminder... the '96 World Series. The Yankees were down 0-2 in the series, and the World Series was considered over. If the Yankees managed to win 2 of 3 in Atlanta, then they at least would be able to keep their hopes alive. The problem was they had to face Glavine, Neagle and Smoltz. If they survived in Atlanta, their present for Game 6 was Maddux again. (And for those who don't remember, the Yankees ended up winning games 3, 4, 5 and 6).

The Phillies have a really good rotation, but it's not on the level that Atlanta's was.

The World Series won't be over any sooner than when one team gets their 4th win.

I don't think anyone was predicting a Yankees sweep, so it was inevitable that they had to lose a game, or two, or three. So they lost one, big deal.

This was pretty much what every Yankees fan I know thought, it was nice watching them eat a piece of humble pie. Despite the buttkicking last night, all that can be erased if the Yanks pull off the win tonight.

Now that both of the aces are out of the way, I'm expecting to see a shootout in either game 3 or 4.

I question how many Yankee fans you know. I haven't heard a single person predict a sweep or an easy series. Yankees fans were probably humbled by all the early exits from the playoffs, and if that didn't humble them, missing the playoffs last year probably did.

If anyone needs a serving of humble pie, it's either the Phillies or their fans. They have the distinction of being the only team in any sport to amass 10,000 losses, but since winning the World Series last year, they've been acting as though they're in a league of their own. Look at Rollins' 5-game prediction as an example. The 1998 Yankees had every reason to believe they'd steamroll over the Padres and sweep the World Series, but nobody on the team would say that.

Anyhow, tonight's obviously an important game. Burnett is coming off his weird outing in Anaheim where he had a horrible 1st inning, but was really good for the next 5 and whatever innings. Who knows what Pedro will do, and how pitching in NY might help or hurt him. There's certainly much less pressure on him now that the Phillies won game 1, and will probably be content taking just the one win back home.
