Well congrats to the Boston Red Sox first, but I've been just as spoiled as a Yankee fan. I've pretty much seen all of the careers of the members of the core four (something we probably won't see again), saw my first Yankees Championship at 9 years of age, 5 total before I was 23.

Some people lived their whole life without seeing the Red Sox win a World Series. Myself, my father, and his father have seen the Yankees win at least five World Series.

They'll be back.

I really think the Yankees need to start looking long term. That means telling Jeter he's no longer the full time shortshop because how many shortstops in their late 30s/early 40s come back from an injury and play at All Star levels? They need to develop guys from the farm and not trade them the second they become valuable. I really think Cashman needs to go.

He is not a power hitter and thus less susceptible to Father Time. He is one of the best #2 hitters ever (where he should have always been on the lineup card) and the last time he was on the field, he was worth it. He and Ibanez were the only ones hitting during the 2012 playoffs. Can he return to that level next year? To be continued....

But why would he get a raise at this point in his career?

He shouldn't have received a raise. I was surprised myself when I saw that he did. I don't have a good answer for that. 9.5 million off a lost year to injury should have been more than enough. Perhaps they are paying a legacy raise. I don't know .

They're paying him for what he has done for them over the years.

That's exactly what it is. Teams aren't obligated to pay their aging legends, but it's admirable the Yankees are IMO. It's not like this is the NFL where salary caps come into play. If you can afford to overpay a guy like Jeter I suppose you may as well.

I understand, but it's interesting that he was worth less last year for what he's done than he is this year.

Ok so for the hottest job in MLB apparently you require NO Managerial experience

Quote:

Brad Ausmus will be named the next Tigers manager, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Ausmus has been a hot name on the managerial front this offseason, also receiving a look from the Cubs and Mariners. The 44-year-old has no managerial experience at the major league level but has served as a special assistant to the general manager with the Padres in recent years and is widely-regarded as an intelligent baseball man. He served as Team Israel's manager in the most recent World Baseball Classic.

Interesting choice. But there are limited numbers of unemployed experienced guys. Wonder if they took a shot at Kirk Gibson?

They've released the list of 12 candidates from the Expansion Era for the HOF.

Dave Concepcion, Bobby Cox, Steve Garvey, Tommy John, Tony La Russa, Billy Martin, Marvin Miller, Dave Parker, Dan Quisenberry, Ted Simmons, George Steinbrenner, Joe Torre

Hopefully Bobby Cox gets the 12 votes necessary (75% of the 16 voting members) since I'll be in Cooperstown for the induction ceremony next year, and it would mean he would likely go in at the same time as Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine.

Last time they voted for Expansion Era was in 2010. 7 of the guys were on the list. Miller got 11 votes, Concepcion got 8 and the others received less than 8: Garvey, John, Martin, Simmons and Steinbrenner.

Torre and Steinbrenner should be no brainers.

No way on Torre or Steinbrenner. Torre was a average player and manager. He isn't even a top 5 winningest manager. He wasn't even a mediocre manager before the yanks. Just cause he won some hardware doesn't make him an alltime great.

And Steinbrenner? What did he do? Spend millions? Just cause he made the Yankees relevant again in the '70's after a decade and a half of losing. He wasn't even the architect behind the yanks most recent dynasty in the 90's. He didn't draft the core players on the team. He was banned from baseball for trying to frame a player he didn't like on his team for illegal activities. Yeah...he deserves the hall...
