A-Rod storms out of arbitration hearing

Alex Rodriguez walked out of his arbitration hearing Wednesday after arbitrator Fredric Horowitz ruled that MLB commissioner Bud Selig did not have to testify.

Rodriguez reportedly slammed his his hand on a table at MLB's Manhattan office and cursed at MLB COO Rob Manfred before leaving. "The absurdity and injustice just became too much," Rodriguez said in a statement released through his spokesman. "I walked out and will not participate any further in this farce." Rodriguez isn't doing himself any favors to sway Horowitz, but it's increasingly clear that he intends to take the issue to federal court.

I will miss Kinsler though. He was always a solid hitter in the 1 and 2 hole, if he didn't pop up and swing for the fences every at bat, he probably would have a better BA. Hopefully Detroit sheds some of Fielders contract

Terrible trade for the Rangers. Why they want to take on a contract that's going to just suck in a couple years is beyond me.

It's not like the Fielder decline hasn't already started.

It's not that bad since the tigers are throwing money in as well. Fielder will no doubt hit 50+ HRs in rangers ballpark. Its a good trade for both sides. Texas can get rid of Moreland and finally put Profar to work as an every day player and Detroit sheds some money to pay Sherzer and move Cabrera to 1st. Win/win in my book

Detroit ate 30 million of his contract hes only on the books for the Rangers for 138 Million

Yeah, I honestly don't think its a bad trade on the rangers end at all. $138M/7 years for a left handed power hitter is a good deal IMO. Princes pop ups will be bombs in rangers ballpark

I think it will not make them World Series contenders, and will limit financial flexibility in the future.

I was not impressed when Detroit gave him the contract, and I'm even less impressed that the Rangers let Detroit out of it.

I won't be surprised at all if this turns into a World Series win for Detroit. After all the Dodgers bailed the Red Sox out for no good reason and they promptly went on to win the WS.

That's why the Rangers still have enough to make a major splash. Don't be surprised if the rangers go after Cano, Beltran or McCann. Unless the Tigers make another move (which they can't do if they're planning on extending Cabrera and Sherzers contracts) I don't see how this trade automatically makes them winners. It was a good trade for both sides but I think Rangers won on this one.

20 mil a year for a lefty power hitter is a steal IMO considering they were already planning on paying Kinsler what? $65 mil or somethin like that for the next 4 seasons.

Sure he had a bad season last year but keep in mind he did go through a divorce last year and baseball is all about mentality. Fielders only 30 years old and has plenty of time to bounce back, especially in a left handed pull hitters dream of a ballpark.

I doubt they go after Cano. That will be a huge contract, and they needed help with the Fielder deal. Plus as you said they can now put Profar at 2B on a permanent basis. I don't think there are many teams left other than the NYY who can sign Cano to anywhere near the deal he seeks.

Anyone who signs Cano to a 300 million dollar deal is a fool I like Miggy and wouldn't give him that. These 200-300 million dollar players are killing the game and ticket costs because these costs are just passed back to the fans.

The Fielder trade is a good trade for both teams, Texas needed that left handed 1st baseman. Detroit needed out of that contract which NEVER should have been signed to begin with, that money would have been better spent going after Yu Darvish and Jose Reyes when they had the chance. Fielder should have been in Texas from day 1 when he was a free agent.

Detroit got some speed, a gold glove 2nd baseman for the next 4 years, a new leadoff hitter, and are able to sign Max to a long term contract. Win/Win for both teams.

Yeah Cano does seem like a long shot for the rangers and honestly, they don't even need a 2B. They need a catcher and an outfielder, especially if Cruz is on his way out.

Texas is basically betting that its hitting environment will rejuvenate Prince's bat, which looked slow and tired much of last season. Detroit is getting the better end of this deal only because Kinsler's contract is much easier to swallow. His road numbers are very poor and I expect him to be an average bat at best outside of Texas.

As of right now, the rangers only have 2 starting position players from the 2011 season. Young, gone. Kinsler, gone, Hamilton, gone. Cruz, most likely gone. Napoli, gone. Moreland, hopefully gone. Murphy, gone.

Man, how I miss most of those guys. Lots of good memories with that bunch.

It's not that bad of a contract IMO especially considering Detroit is paying $30 mil of it. Only time will tell if this was a good trade on the rangers end or not.

I think you know why so many of us think this was a bad deal for Texas. You took on the majority of a bad contract for an overweight power hitter on the downhill part of his career. His best years appear to be over.
