The Yankees and Hiroki Kuroda finalized a one-year, $16MM contract last night that will allow the right-hander to earn up to $500K worth of incentives, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post (on Twitter). Kuroda, a client of Octagon's Steve Hilliard, will earn $250K for reaching the 190-inning and 210-inning milestones, according to Sherman.

Kuroda will turn 39 years old in Februaryand was reported to be weighing a return to Japan and a return to a Southern California team in order to be closer to his family, who currently reside in that area due to Kuroda's days with the Dodgers. Instead, Kuroda will return to New York for a third season. Over the past two years, Kuroda has posted a 3.31 ERA with 6.8 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 in 421 innings in Yankee pinstripes. Kuroda earned $15MM in 2013, so a $16MM salary represents a slight raise.

Super happy about this. Kuroda kicked ass last year. I was worried he might go back to Japan or retire.

I'm gonna miss seeing Cano in pinstripes but I guess I'm satisfied with the Kelly Johnson signing. I still have no idea who's gonna be playing third. Nunez? Ryan? I'm not sure if Kelly has any experience there. I don't understand why they non-rendered Nix. He was such a hard ball player.

Looks like at least 1 NY team is doing work today.

I hope Cano has a big ass screen and a comfy sofa at home because that's the only he'll be watching to playoffs now every October because the M's won't even sniff the playoffs. A-Rod/Rangers 2.0 anyone? The 7yr 175 mil offer we made was more than fair enough (25 mil a year). It works out for us because we can sign pitchers now (we'll probably talk to the Reds about Brandon Phillips but it will take a lot though).

Good for the Mets. They got themselves a classy player. If the Mets let him get away, Met fans would have sworn off that team.

Good for Cano on his big payday. I hope he sets the league on fire just like Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols have after signing their huge contracts.

I forget that they play for the love of the game and not the money.

Mariners

What an albatross of a contract. Power numbers will dip in the cavernous Safeco Field. I hope Cano will be happy for a perennial loser.

Stop sounding like a bunch of butthurt yankees fans, For ONCE relish in the fact your team did the right thing and let him walk. you guys are not saddled with the contract that will bite you in the ass in 4 years. Look at Canos numbers in New Yankee stadium and elsewhere see if he was a product of the stadium he played in and not the team he was on. If you guys land Infante you'll be fine hes a good player very good above average 2nd baseman, and in Yankee stadium like everyone else im sure hell hit a good extra 10 bombs than he did this year. And the best side you'll only be saddled with 31 million instead of 240!

I am sure the Yankees have a good 2nd baseman they can bring up in a few years to fill the spot. This is the only time you will ever hear me say this Way to go Yankees you did a hellva job letting Cano walk.

Who's but hurt? he (and Jay-Z) were greedy. I'm glad Hal let him walk. If it was Hank, Cano would have gotten 300 million. Now we can use that money we were going to give him, to sure up our pitching. Anyway, I expect that we'll talk to the Reds about Brandon Phillips.

Anyone else find it ironic to see the Yankees fans upset about getting outbid for a free agent?

Who's upset? I find it hilarious that the Mariners would spend so much money on a player who will have declining statistics. No way he hits as many HRs this year playing in Safeco. Shoot let him make 240 million if that's what matters to him. He won't sniff the playoffs, but if that's what he really wants, then more power to him and I am glad to have seen him play in pinstripes during his time with us.

Exactly. I laugh at these Yankee haters who have no idea what they are talking about.

I know exactly what I'm talking about Hi Prince Fielder for 219 million. Yeah it was great when we got the FA, then looking at the implications of that huge contract on the team it was bad. So please dont sit there and patronize people for "having no idea." I can make plenty of fun of the Yankees for other reasons. People are in amazement due to them showing a massive amount of restraint in recent years and doing the right thing. Yet instead of agreeing with people you all sit here and make fun of Seattle, Make fun of your FA who left. You could easily take the high road and say at 240 million he wasn't a good fit here, best of luck to him.

Judging by the tone of your guys' posts you aren't very happy that Cano signed with Seattle. Face it, you got outbid. Seattle was stupid to offer him that much, and they will face the repercussions in the coming years.

Isn't that what I said...

Of course I'm going to make fun of Seattle for handing that contract out.
