New rumor (just read it on bleacher report) is that the Yankees are shopping Ichiro (in addition to Gardner).

I think he should. This guy was an ace for over a decade. He dominated both leagues including a large portion in the AL east.

He might be tough. He had 7 really strong years in a 10-year period.... but if you look at just numbers like a lot of the voters will in 5+ years, it could be very difficult to see.

I agree. But if you were to ask who was the most dominant pitcher over the last decade. It would have to be Halladay.

Cliff Lee or King Felix.

But Halladay would be damn close.

Felix hasn't been in the league for 10 years and Cliff Lee wasn't as consistent as Halladay.

Also let's not forget that Halladay pitched in the toughest division in baseball for over a decade while Lee pitched in the AL Central and NL East...

King Felix has been in for 9, and Halladay's last 2 were terrible.

Go look at Cliff Lee's stats. He's had some rough seasons playing against a weaker division. Plus he has only won 1 Cy Young. Felix has had 8.5 years.

From 2002-2011 he was the best pitcher in baseball. That's a solid 10 year run. He should be in the HOF.

I doubt he'd even reach my top 5 from around this time period. He was a great pitcher. No doubt. Its sad to see him retire so young.

He's 36... So who would you put ahead of him?

Over a ten-year span from 2002-2011, Roy Halladay was the best pitcher in baseball. Use either RA-9 WAR or FIP-WAR, nobody else comes close.

This article says everything I possibly can say.

Halladay’s 62.4 rWAR during from ages 25-34 ranks as the 10th best ever among pitchers. Everyone else in the top 16 on the list is a Hall of Famer or will be.

I know how old he is.

1.) Johan Santana
2.) Pedro Martinez
3.) Randy Johnson
4.) John Smoltz
5.) Tim Hudson (probably tied with Halladay)

So I guess I was wrong. But compared to the top 4 he's not even in the same league, IMHO.

Randy was not very good during those years. Pedro and Smoltz were declining as well. Seriously Tim Hudson . Hudson never won a Cy Young lol.

The only one who you can really have a discussion about is Santana. They both were the top pitchers during this time. I give the edge to Halladay due to the competition he faced (AL East was stronger than AL Central in those years)

Whatever dude. Hudson had more consistent stats over those 9 years than Roy. Id hardly say Pedro and Randy were declining. Pedro put up his best season in 02. And he was in the same boat as Roy in terms of competition. Same with Randy.

After looking through Roy's stats again, I realize he is going to be a hall of famer with a record like that.

Randy was bad when he was w/ us. Unbelievable pitcher but not during those years. You pick the first year to show Pedro wasn't declining. Sure he was still excellent during 2002 and 2003, but from 2004 on, he was not the same lights out pitcher he was the previous 6-7 years. I'm not even going to touch Hudson.

I failed to name 5 players that had stats from 2002-2011 that are better. I thought you meant pitchers that were better than him that played in that period.

Hudson had better stats than Randy. I would actually replace him with Oswalt. Tim has an incredibly consistent winning %. If Pedro would have stayed in Boston his numbers would have remained hot.

While everyone likes to see that round 20 number and a good winning %, those numbers mean less than they previously have. ERA, WAR, and xFIP are much more meaningful stats. Wins and win% are a reflection of the team that pitcher played on. Hence why pitchers like Felix have recently won a Cy Young.
