Yes because pitching in AL is so hard...

Yeah because no pitcher has come from the NL and pitched well. Heck Kuroda has been downright abysmal . I want to get younger. Lee is dynamite, but he's getting long in the tooth. I'd rather pay the higher salary of Hamels because he is much younger.

Going by ERA+, Cole Hamels last year was equivalent to Andy Pettite(11-11; 3.74 ERA). That isn't worth 22.5M/season. If he returns to his form of the previous few years, then perhaps he is worth the money.

One thing he does have going for him is his health has been excellent, pitching more then 200 innings each of the last four seasons.

He was abysmal during the first half of the season. Breakdown his second half stats.

I still cant believe the Giants gave Lincecum $35 Million over 2 years, thats just stupid ... Of course there gambling that he regains his form back from previous seasons, but he's done nothing but regress, baseball contracts are just

On the bright side, could have been worse, he turned down a 5 year $100 Million contract 2 years ago, we dodged a bullet there

I just saw this. Not sure how I feel about Masterson. I don't think I would trade Gardner for him. Plus he's only signed for one more year.

How often does a NL pitcher comes to the AL (AL east) and pitch very well you're willing to take that risk with that much money owed to him?

Scherzer has been pathetic for the Tigers since moving from the NL. I am willing to take that risk. Hamels is young and has electric stuff.

That's your opinion pal .

It's irrelevant because it's highly unlikely that this would occur.

Scherzer was good the three years prior to this season, but not worth $22.5M/season. This past season is the outlier, which is why an extension seems unlikely this off-season unless the Tigers decide to overpay.

FWIW, one of Hamels most similar pitchers by age according to Baseball Reference is Jake Peavy.

Point was that Scherzer came over from the NL and has pitched well in the AL. Yeah but Peavy has had injury issues. Hamels not so much. Out of all the available pitchers, Hamels would be #1 on my list followed by Lee, but I don't want the Yankees to trade for another 35+ year old. We need to get younger.

But all the players you can pay a fortune for are older

I'd have more confidence with Cliff Lee than Cole Hamels.

With the new posting fee system, Masahiro Tanaka is starting to look interesting.(Particularly with his comparisons to Uehara.)

TBS, the Red Sox are not likely involved in discussions to sign any starting pitchers or to take on a large salary. They still have several veteran starters that they would be only too happy to send somewhere else. So I guess my interest is merely ancillary.

I don't know if Hamels is a good fit for the New York market. He has thin skin, and has had issues with some members of the Philly press when he goes on his inconsistent stretches. I can't imagine the New York media would give him a free pass if he goes a few games without having his best stuff.

Bartolo to the Mets.

Corey Hart and Logan Morrison to the Mariners.

The MLB rules committee has voted to make collisions at home plate illegal. This isn't an official rule change yet, as the decision still has to be approved by the players, but it sure looks like the home plate collision's place in baseball is no more.
