Maddux was not the best at his position. Last edited by walruswarrior; 01-11-2014 at 05:24 AM. |

And I thought my homerism was showing...
Yeah. Maddux only had the most wins in MLB history in the modern era by any pitcher. 18 Gold Gloves 4 straight Cy Youngs 10th all-time in strikeouts Never been accused of cheating. Team Player. But that doesn't deserve unanimous status... If postseason success was the prime factor in Hall of Fame status, then Curt Schilling would be a first ballot guy. And it's easy for Mariano to stay loyal to a team that's willing to pay beyond top dollar for him. Once Craig Kimbrel hits free agency, the Braves won't be able to afford him, and he's had arguably the most dominant 3 year span by any closer in history, including Mariano. The difference is, the Yankees could always afford to pay Mariano what other teams couldn't. Chipper, Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine all took below market value to stay with the Braves. Even Andruw Jones took below market value. Last edited by A Sith Lord?; 01-11-2014 at 05:52 AM. |

GCOAT, but not GOAT. Why? He was a complete failure as a starter. I'm not saying he's not a HOFer or first ballot, but he's not going to be close to unanimous. I'd say 95% at best, and thAt would require a good number of the old farts quitting. Many won't vote for ANY player in the era (there have never been any questions about Maddux but at least 2 used this reasoning to not vote for him). Also, some still don't believe closer is a real position, just like DH. |

A-rod has a point. MLB using his admitted Texas use to deem him a repeat offender is a pretty flimsy argument. They turned a blind eye then and had no testing. They can't use that now. Whatever evidence they have now which is supposedly overwhelming should be enough on its own to uphold a season-long suspension by citing ped use for multiple Yankee seasons.

I wouldn't say never, but it's a shame that it's going to be true for the foreseeable future. The bottom line is that Mo should be like the 20th unanimous choice but certain voters feel they need to act dumb every year.

Per ESPN the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw have agreed to a 7-year, $215 million contract. While some thought Kershaw could get as much as $300 million this could benefit him long-term because he'll only be 32 when the deal ends so he could be in line for another huge payday if he stays healthy.
