I wonder if Mariano breaks Seaver's record. He seems the most logical besides maybe the Big Unit.

If Maddux didn't, I don't know why Mo or Randy would.

Also, there's a reason there are very few relievers in the HoF.

GOAT bar none and has absolutely no equals would be a reason plus his values (extremely clean) and being with one team for his whole career are huge reasons why. And lets not even get into the postseason stuff where there have been more men to walk on the moon then Mariano has allowed to score. Maddux can't touch Mariano in terms of postseason success.

Maddux was not the best at his position.

And I thought my homerism was showing...

Yeah.

Maddux only had the most wins in MLB history in the modern era by any pitcher.
18 Gold Gloves
4 straight Cy Youngs
10th all-time in strikeouts
Never been accused of cheating.
Team Player.

But that doesn't deserve unanimous status...

If postseason success was the prime factor in Hall of Fame status, then Curt Schilling would be a first ballot guy.

And it's easy for Mariano to stay loyal to a team that's willing to pay beyond top dollar for him. Once Craig Kimbrel hits free agency, the Braves won't be able to afford him, and he's had arguably the most dominant 3 year span by any closer in history, including Mariano. The difference is, the Yankees could always afford to pay Mariano what other teams couldn't. Chipper, Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine all took below market value to stay with the Braves. Even Andruw Jones took below market value.

Unlike Schilling, Mo has all the regular season stats as well. Not sure how that argument applies in this case. Kimbrel will not approach Mo because he won't have the postseason stats to back it. Maddux is still not better than Nolan Ryan. Name a closer better than Mo. I didn't say 100% of the vote. I said breaking Seaver's record because there will always be those who say closers shouldn't be in the HOF.

Oh and Warren Spahn has the most wins in the modern era.

It's difficult to compare the two, but Maddux was a significantly better pitcher than Ryan. Ryan was certainly the better thrower.

GCOAT, but not GOAT. Why? He was a complete failure as a starter.

I'm not saying he's not a HOFer or first ballot, but he's not going to be close to unanimous. I'd say 95% at best, and thAt would require a good number of the old farts quitting. Many won't vote for ANY player in the era (there have never been any questions about Maddux but at least 2 used this reasoning to not vote for him). Also, some still don't believe closer is a real position, just like DH.

Of course I mean closer. You judge people from their peers at their position and he has no equal. He's a very well liked and respected guy. Even more so than Maddux which will help his cause. I've already discussed the closer doesn't deserve to be in the hall position which is , which could be a reason he won't. But if they were to vote for any closer he would be the one. All this is speculation and well see in 5 years.

How is he more respected than Maddux? Because he was still playing last year?

Whatever evidence they have now which is supposedly overwhelming should be enough on its own to uphold a season-long suspension by citing ped use for multiple Yankee seasons.

You hear how they gush over him. Plus the retirement tour and many of the analysts saying if Mo doesn't get 100% no one will.

I wouldn't say never, but it's a shame that it's going to be true for the foreseeable future. The bottom line is that Mo should be like the 20th unanimous choice but certain voters feel they need to act dumb every year.

They gushed over Maddux the same way his last year.

If Maddux didn't beat Seaver's record, Mariano won't beat it.

ESPN announced the schedule for their first 10 Sunday Night Games. All have the Yankees, Dodgers, Cardinals or Red Sox playing.

Per ESPN the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw have agreed to a 7-year, $215 million contract. While some thought Kershaw could get as much as $300 million this could benefit him long-term because he'll only be 32 when the deal ends so he could be in line for another huge payday if he stays healthy.
