Really so if Detroit offered you Cabrera you wouldn't take it? You misunderstand no one cares for Detroit and no one cares for Cabrera. If Cabrera wasn't there. Would anyone care for Detroit? I think they would. Take away all our stars would people still care for the Yankees? Of course because they are the flagship franchise. I think that's what he was trying to say. I don't necessarily agree with that view. Tigers are a fine franchise. Much better than a lot of other franchises.

Greg Maddux has decided to go with no team logo for his Hall of Fame plaque hat. Maddux explained his decision:

My wife Kathy and I grew up in baseball in Chicago, and then we had just an amazing experience in Atlanta with the Braves. It’s impossible for me to choose one of those teams for my Hall of Fame plaque, as the fans of both clubs in each of those cities were so wonderful. I can’t think of having my Hall of Fame induction without support of both of those fan bases, so, for that reason, the cap on my Hall of Fame plaque will not feature a logo.

Among the other inductees, Bobby Cox and Tom Glavine will go with Braves caps, Frank Thomas will go White Sox, Joe Torre will go Yankees, and Tony La Russa is going no logo.

That's crap.

But when did the Hall start letting the players decide?

Edit: Just poorly written. HoF made the decision. Maddux was just expressing his relief at not having to be split.

The final decision is ultimately up to the Hall of Fame, but players have a lot of say and if Maddux had insisted on having a Braves cap it's likely they would have agreed. For the most part the Hall will abide by the player's wishes unless it's fairly egregious, like when Wade Boggs wanted a Rays cap on his plaque.

I think Johnson will be no logo. While he had a ton of success with the D-Backs he also made 5 All-Star teams and threw a no-hitter when he was with the Mariners.

As someone that watched 99.5% of Maddux's starts as a Brave, this is a serious slap against the team and organization. He clearly told the HOF behind scenes he didn't want a Braves cap on his plaque.

Learned something interesting today....

Unless the law has been changed or has exclusions for sports, Clayton Kershaw (and potentially some other guys) may be able to get out of their contracts at any point under California law. According to Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family, the cast members were able to sue ABC over their pay because the contracts they signed were invalid because California law limits the length of a contract to something like 6 years and 8 months.
