Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that Jose Iglesias (shins) will miss at least four months, and perhaps the entirety of the 2014 season.

It's a very tough break for the Tigers, as the defensive wizard adds considerable value to the team's pitching staff. The Tigers are now reportedly interested in signing free agent Stephen Drew to fill the void, but they could also talk to the Mariners about Nick Franklin, or let in-house option Hernan Perez get a crack at regular playing time.

Francisco Cervelli is having a good spring. Looks like he'll be our backup catcher (unless we get overwhelming offer tradewise which I doubt that will happen). Looks like Murphy and Romaine will be heading down to AAA (but I won't be surprised if one of them gets traded since we have a surplus of catching).

UPDATE: Brian Roberts has looked pretty good this spring. If he can avoid the injury bug, he'll do fine for us and could be one of the biggest steals of the winter.

Aroldis Chapman suffered a laceration and contusion above his left eye after taking a Salvador Perez comeback line drive off the face on Wednesday night.

The good news is that Chapman never lost consciousness throughout the ordeal. He was immobilized and carted off the field, and the rest of the game between the Reds and Royals was cancelled after the scary incident. Chapman's timetable for a return to the mound is secondary to his health at this point, and no indication was given as to what his immediate future looks like. It does appear, for now, that a tragic injury was avoided. JJ Hoover is worth a speculative add in fantasy leagues.

Aroldis Chapman was diagnosed late Wednesday night with fractures above his left eye and nose.

He suffered those injuries when he was struck in the face by a line drive off the bat of Royals catcher Salvador Perez during Wednesday's Cactus League game. Chapman lay on the ground for several minutes before eventually being moved to a stretcher and taken to a nearby Arizona hospital. It's pretty much a certainty that he will begin the 2014 season on the disabled list. JJ Hoover seems likely to be tried first as the fill-in closer. Jonathan Broxton and Sean Marshall are the other options. A committee is possible.

Really scary injury. Prayers are with him for a speedy recovery.

The ball was estimated to be travelling at around 110 MPH when it hit him. Even with a full recovery something like this can devestate a career. Even the slightest decline in mental state can ruin a career of a pitcher and what happened to Chapman will probably be in the back of his mind every pitch he throws for a very long time.

Absolutely. Taking a ball like that could kill a man with the worst case scenario. He is damn lucky, let's hope he doesn't have any brain injuries to go along with the fractures.

A-Rod has refused to pay a large part of his legal bill, sources said, confirming a report in the New York Daily News.

Those sources estimate that he has refused to pay about $3 million out of an estimated $5 million or more in legal fees. Those sources further say he has refused to even return phone calls on the matter, making it clear he has no interest in paying.
