Normally teams like to keep some separation between their worst hitters. It doesn't help your team to know that if you're 6th hitter gets on, the inning is over. You'll see a lot of them sprinkled throughout 6-9 except in the most loaded lineups. Also, a lot of AL teams have had their worst hitter in the 4 or 5 spot in recent years given how many of them have had some serious pop in their bat, if they make contact. |

David Ortiz by comparison has almost 1000 XBHs for his 2024 hits. And nobody wanted Soriano because of his contract. The NL is also very different than the AL. Last edited by sycro; 04-01-2014 at 06:54 PM. |

in comparison to a 230 lb DH with 15 career steals (he is listed at 230.. I doubt that,) yes Henderson was a singles hitter, but it is likely you just don't remember his playing days. 300 homers with the prime of his career being before the steroid era is a BIG number. yes, he probably legged out more infield hits than the average player. that does not make him a singles hitter. not with that kind of pop. he hit leadoff for his speed (obvious) and his ability to draw a walk. he also has a lifetime average of .279 and never had a season with 180 hits. not a singles hitter. back to the main pt.. players with pop in their bat will have their RBI numbers suffer if batting leadoff. not a good idea. there was a reason for Henderson and Soriano to bat leadoff. for Soriano, too, it eventually became a bad idea. why? he can't run. just like Big Papi. |

Cal Ripken - 66.1 % of career hits were singles
Ryne Sandberg - 68.1% of career hits were singles Gary Carter - 65.3% of career hits were singles Singles hitters? I applaud your effort to not accept defeat in this matter, but c'mon, let's not make up new measures with which to define players. Edit: Here's another good one. Jim Rice - 66% of career hits were singles. Last edited by bwdowiak; 04-01-2014 at 09:34 PM. |

well here is mine anyway (I could not find any rules against it)
Tuesday, April 1st - Philadelphia @ Texas Both teams showed a lot of life and both teams had poor as heck pitching in game 1 of this series – by game's end the Phillies made enough big plays to win the game. Okay, so now we move on to game 2... I do not want to shy away from Texas tonight; I am hopeful that SP, Martin Perez can stabilize the pitching in this series and help the Rangers en route to a victory tonight. I am hopeful for a quality start from Perez, meaning 6 innings of 3 runs or less baseball. I am not betting that he will have one. I am betting that the Rangers will do enough, especially at the plate to earn a win. A.J. Burnett is a tough pitcher to face, but having faced Lee the night before and with strong success, Texas’ offense has a 50/50 change of putting up more than 3 runs (in my estimation…my crystal ball is still in the shop getting upgraded to 1080p, high-definition). Phillies relied on big innings and two-out hitting in the last nights game, not a bad thing to rely on Continued two-out hitting by Philadelphia should be worrisome for any prospector on the side of Texas tonight, but every game has something that is worrisome - I can stomach the possibility of a repeat performance by them tonight. I like the Texas Rangers to win tonight (and you have to climb the ladder a bit to the -140s), since I noticed more positives than negatives. Positives like completing a quick comeback down 6-0. Positives like a young SP that has a lot to prove tonight in Martin Perez – Texas has already shown resiliency in the early going; now if they can just get some solid SP and a short lead late in this ballgame, I like their chances to squeak out a win. FOR FUN, FOR WHOMEVER IS INTERESTED in reading this gibberish. |

I wouldn't say it's pitiful with guys like Altuve, Fowler, Martinez, and Carter. They could become a wild card candidate in 2015. Quote:
Yep, same thing for me. It's pretty upsetting even though they're getting smashed already. Oh CC. ![]() I really have no idea why he's at the top of the rotation. |

The MLB Network is a freaking joke. Description says I'll get either Indians vs A's or Angels vs Mariners depending on my region. Stupid as it is that the game I am supposed to get is Indians/A's, when an Angels game would make so much more sense in this region given that the only baseball team in this state is the AAA affiliate of the Angels. But the Indians game is postponed, so you would think they would at least show the Angels game, but noooooooooo, they instead just show random live look-ins at other games.
I always freaking deal with this. And on Saturday games when the Angels game is on Fox, I have never once gotten that game. It has always been whatever the other regional choice has been between the two. Other than bandwagon teams like the Yankees and Red Sox, I've always seen more Angel fans in this state than any other team. ![]() |
