Phillies announced Blanton as the Game 4 starter, meaning they're saving Lee for Game 5.

Why does this matter?

Because it creates a quite a mis-match between starting pitchers, since the Yankees are all but confirmed to be throwing Sabathia out there for Game 4.

If Sabathia is Sabathia, and Blanton is Blanton, then it should go down as a win for the Yankees (Blanton has an awfully high ERA for an NL pitcher, and his record probably only looks respectable because he has the Phillies offense slugging out wins for him). Blanton may've hit a home run the last time he pitched in the WS, but Sabathia is even the better slugger of the two.

In a way it seems Games 4 and 5 cancel out. Yankees have an edge in terms of starters in Game 4, and Phillies have the edge in Game 5 (Lee vs Burnett). So assuming those games are split, it puts a lot of importance on tomorrow's game.

If the Yankees can win Games 3 and 4, I think they'll concede Game 5 to Lee, and be happy to go back to NY up 3-2 in the series.

If the Phillies win Games 3 and 5, I think the Yankees are still in it, because they have a slight edge in Games 6 and 7, since they're back home (home crowd + DH) and it will likely be Pedro and Hamels against Pettite and Sabathia.

Unless the Phillies are bluffing, Cliff Lee is pitching Game 5, meaning there's no way he's pitching Game 7... except maybe an inning as a reliever.

That'd be 2-days rest, and I'm 99% sure they wouldn't do it/he wouldn't physically be able to.

I noticed that a couple weeks ago. I assume it's been there all along, because I don't know if its possible to add tags.

So I think hc666 did it when he created the thread, or a mod came along and added it.
