Before last night, Tommy LaStella was tied for 6th in the NL in hits by a rookie and 4th in multi-hit games at 8. He had only played in 15 games. Last night he went 3-3. He's now tied for 4th in hits, 23 in his 56 ABs. The guys ahead of him have 58 (in 215 and 220 ABs), 35 (in 143) and 23 (in 128). He's just a hittin machine!

The Padres have confirmed that Tony Gwynn has died. One of the all-time greats.

I always liked how Tony Gwynn showed loyalty towards the Padres. He could have made a lot more money by leaving San Diego but he loved it there and didn't want to move his family so he always gave them a discount, which really angered the player's association because they felt he was hurting other players by not taking the biggest contract available.
