He's a top 5 Yankee based off of regular season stats, being the captain, his postseason numbers, and everything that he brought to the Yankees and the city. People forget that before the arrival of Jeter, the Yankees were mediocre and downright terrible in the 80s and early 90s. His arrival signaled the dynasty and he never courted controversy. He was clean during a period in which everyone was seemingly dirty.

Why do you associate this with Jeter?

Jeter: 1995-2014, 5 championships

Joe Girardi: 1996-1999, 3 championships
Tino Martinez: 1996-2001, 4 championships
Bernie Williams: 1991-2006, 4 championships
Paul O'Neil: 1993-2001, 4 championships
Andy Pettite: 1995-2003, 2007-2010, 2012-2013, 5 championships
David Cone: 1995-2000, 4 championships
Mariano Rivera: 1995-2013, 5 championships

Why does Jeter get the credit and not the 5 other guys that joined the team at the same time or the 2 other stars that had been solid on the team previously?

Why not Paul O'Neil? The team was a loser before he arrived. Then in 93 they got close, when only 2 teams from each league make it. Only the strike kept them out of the playoffs in 94, and in 95 they were in the playoffs. Then they brought in a bunch of new guys. But somehow Jeter is the only one that gets credit for those. The rookie was not the captain of the team. He wasn't made the captain until after 4 of the championships.

Because those guys came and went. Yet Jeter led the team to 7 WS appearances and 5 WS championships. Who was the SS before Jeter? I know because I have been watching and following the Yankees since 1991. Plus SS is one of the most important positions on the field.

Additionally Jeter is called Mr November for a reason. Look at his stats in the playoffs. That's all there needs to be said. The guy went out there and played the game and you knew exactly what you were going to get. It Mo didn't blow that Game 7 save, Jeter would be even more elevated as he was the one who won Game 6 with a HR. The guy always produced. Have I said he's the greatest Yankee ever. No. But he's been the greatest Yankee of his era.

Man, SS was a revolving door during the late 80's until Jeter (Wayne Tolleson, Randy Verlarde, Tony Fernandez, etc). I wonder how things would have panned out if Fernandez didn't get injured. Also, another stat to add for Jeter. His offensive WAR is 95.4 which is 4th all time on the Yankees.

And Jeter was bad at it.

I get it, you are a Yankees fan, but trying to give credit to Jeter here is laughable to people who aren't (and paid attention).

Out of all of Jeter's seasons with the Yankees he was above replacement-level defensively twice. Once ARod arrived he was the second best shortstop on his own team.

Jeter's a great personality and leader, and was great offensively, but the Yankees would have been better if he'd been willing to move.

Can you explain to me statistically what UZI, dwar, and all other defensive metrics actually mean?
